Recently diagnosed

I'm just scared.  I was diagnosed less than a month ago with Hep C.  Since then I have seen a gastro doctor, had bloodwork done and a liver biopsy.  Next appt. is Sept. 11.  I did find out my VL is high but all other bloodwork is in the normal range, The nurse told me I have fatty deposits on my liver from the ultrasound, but wouldn't give me the results of my biopsy as I have to wait for the doctor to tell me.  I haven't drank since the 80's, am not overweight, am female and otherwise physically healthy.  I also know I probably contracted this virus in the mid 70's. Since my diagnosis, my moods are all over the place, and my family has backed off.  I live alone, in Idaho of all places (hey, at least the Larry Craig jokes give me something to laugh about).  How does someone decide to have treatment or not?   How does the insurance company decide?  To complicate this, I have bipolar.  Thank you so much for any support.

I know it is quite shocking when you are first diagnosed. It will take some time to come to terms with it. You sound normal in your reactions. Read as much as you can and you will find that it is a serious but not life threating condition. Make sure you are happy with your Dr. before making any decisions about treatment or anything.  Try to learn as much as you can about Hep c before your next Dr.s appointment. I assume you will be getting the results of you biopsy then? Take care,-Libby
