I tend to agree with SusieS2010—more info is needed. If you have late stage liver disease, elevated bilirubin can leave bile salts under the skin leading to severe pruritis. If this is the case, you should report to your specialist.
Good luck,
Bill
Hi, Atricia. These are things that help my hubby:
Vistaril/Hydroxyzine-this also helps with anxiety.
Tie Oatmeal in a rag and throw in bath water or rub on body in shower.
Caladryl cream on bad areas-he uses this at nite cuz it doesn't rub off as easily.
Sun exposure and heat (hot water) makes his rash much worse; a cold rinse helps if u can stand to do it.
Cold packs on bad welt areas. Tends to reduce welt swelling and histamine reactions.
He tries not to take oral or topical meds unless nothing else works because almost all of them can damage his liver further.
Cornhuskers lotion for dry scabby areas.
Witch hazel, but not on real raw spots.
Gold Bond helps, especially short term and for localized areas, but Atarax helped me the most with whole body itchies. Also known as Vistaril or Hydroxyzine. I am late stage and had no complications from it.
Yup. Gold bond is great and also get a script for Atarax from MD. It works better than OTC meds. Good luck. Itching was my worst side effect when I was on tx.
It would help to know some more information. Are you on treatment? Do you have late stage hepatitis C? Have you changed anything in your diet or laundry products? There is just not enough information to make an informed suggestion.
When I start itching all over I use Gold Bond lotion and it helps alot. My itch is mostly from the dryness of my skin and it really helps.
