contracting hep c during sex

My question is if (the female) has Hep c and is bleeding during sex caused we believe from her being extremely tight and me maybe slightly larger than normal, and also her not having sex on a regular basis, what are the chances of me contacting hep c from not using protection one time......it has been over a month since I last saw her and she has informed me she tested positive for hep c ....I am worried and am planning on getting tested later this week.  Jerrykd2

Sorry if all this talk and joking offends anyone but it does alot of us GOOD to laugh and joke sometimes instead of it always being so serious all the time.

It is hard enough to deal with this disease, for there not to be laughter involved.

Can you wear a sandwich board that says "the End is Near"... hahahahaha I've seen them in NY.

For everybody that is having trouble understanding the badger talk, remember the old Chinese-Hungarian saying:
"A journey of 48 weeks begins with a single shot... and ends with a single maniacal laugh."

Hahahahaha  No coincidence there. I spent SO much time and energy trying to find it here that others took and interest. Indiana folks LOVE a challenge. Come to find out that only THAT Badger had a problem with it. Probably cuz of the way I tried to get it from him. Guess he doesn't like being gay now. The females are all happy to give it up when there's money involved.....go figure. Now all the Indiana Badgers live in condos' and have swimming pools and wear shades. So now it's a BIG industry here.
The next big project here may relate to the Woodpeckers. If I can convince them to come back after the 4th of July explosions. I think they may carry an enzyme that could rival Viagra for the impotence drug market. Ever see a "limp" woodpecker?? I figure we'll call it "PeckerWood". Whatcha think? Nothing says Hard like Woodpecker!
Hahahahahaha   LAUGH DAMMIT!  OUT LOUD!!  IT'S GOOD FOR YA!
Hang in there girl. The end is near now and I'm down here at the finish line waiting to cheer you on!

Condoms are good, but penial reduction could rectify the problem perminately.

Seriously, I have had Hep C for 30 years, and non of my previous mates have hep C.

I'd say good luck, but it seems you already have that.

Bodie.....Macrocytic Red cells means enlarged red cells. So I guess you have "something" bigger than Jerry. Enlarged red cells are fairly common with anemia.
Funny you should mention Clorox to Jerry. That stuff is one of the few things that DOES kill the virus. I'm not so sure it can do much good AFTER sex, But I figure that if he stops right before and tells his partner that he needs to wash his " BIG TREE" with Clorox it'll probably prevent any chance of transmission. No way she would let that thing in the "South Lawn" after THAT. Plus if the Clorox is cold then things would be MUCH smaller and easier to deal with.
Just some Random thoughts............

Geez, Indy, you have a way of putting words together.  Don't need to clean the floor this weekend, I just did it by rotfl.
I saw a sign at the Agway store for "Badger Balm."  I asked where it came from and they said from Indiana... is this a coincidence?
Best,

Thanks for the info. It would be Monday at least before I could get an explanation. This board is a God-send. Stress is one of the main things for me that bring my counts down. More stress, lower counts. Just couldn't see going thru the week-end stressing. Now if I can get the nausea and back-door trots to ease up, I may be able to watch OU and OSU from somewhere other than the bathroom!
Thanks
Bodie

Most docs will start Procrit when your Hemoglobin goes below 10; they like the hematocrit at 30 or better, too.  What were your blood counts at baseline (before tx)? Most people drop around 3-3.5 points on the hemoglobin.  It takes 2-4 weeks to see the effects of Procrit kick in.
It's mostly the ribavirin's fault; it kills off red blood cells too fast (hemolyzes).  Normally RBC's live about 120-140 days; riba kills them off after perhaps 80 in many people, and the body needs to produce new ones (from the stem cells) many more new RBC's.
RBC Morphology is about the "forms" of your RBC's.  Your body is trying to crank out lots of new RBCs into circulation; macrocytes are one type of somewhat immature cells in circulation, and they don't carry oxygen as efficiently as fully mature RBC's.  You said you're extra tired, right?  Voi'la.  You may get several other funny types under RBC morphology before you're done.  Also MCV, MCH and RDW might be a bit high; that's all linked to the same stuff.
Lowering or stopping Riba for a short time might be enough to bring your RBC's back up.  However, then you're not taking the therapy meds at the needed doses; that could compromise the whole tx.  The docs are trying to balance all that; it's part of the art of medicine.

Low WBC won't make you feel bad, but makes you more vulnerable to infections.  Limit close encounters in crowds, etc.; wash your hands frequently.  You're not at dangerous levels yet, but keeping the ANC above .750 is desirable; your doc will probably base Neupogen use around that.  Many of us have gone lower; research seems to indicate that if HCV-tx lowered your ANC, you are not as vulnerable as if this happened from "natural causes."
In other words, it is not as hazardous for us.  Many of us have been down around .500 with no dangerous opportunistic infections; but it is something to take seriously.
Neupogen (G-CSF) works in the bone marrow, increasing the rate of development of blood cells from stem cells.  It tends to improve WBC's in one-two weeks.

it was Hopiangel who had the macrocytic red blood cells.  I dont think its anything to worry about but you have to ask your doc I would guess.  Good luck sweetie.

You should get tested and you should use protection during sex. If this is just a girlfriend and not a long term relationship, I would definately wear a condom.  It is true that there are very low percentage rates that show contracting hepC through sexual contact, but it does happen.  Why take the chance?

On the question of transmission during sex, that is how I got it! There is a slim chance. But if you are having unprotected sex with more than one person, the chances get greater and greater. Chances are a strange thing. It's numbers till it is you!! Then chances don't matter. If you get out of this, I would take some serious time with myself and figure out how to keep this from happening again. The old saying is you get in bed with every one of the other person's lovers when you get into bed with them.
There are a lot of things in this world that Clorox won't wash off!!! Don't gamble with your life that way. Someday you will wish you had taken more precautions.

Even though the chances of catching hepc through sex is so small I would still be tested. You might want to leave out the slightly larger than normal part when you talk to the doctor though he might just want you to prove it lol. I believe you though.

I have gotten blood test today and the diagnosis code says that I am anemic (among leuko-, neutro-, and lymphopenic also). But it says that I am also macrocytic RBC. What is it? Seems like I've seen that somewhere on the board and what a surprise! I can't find it.
My bloods are WBC 1.59, Neu .826, lym .687, RBC 2.85, HGB 10.2, HCT 30.7. It also says RBC Morphology.
Now I know that I have had low labs, but these are the lowest, but just two weeks ago, the WBC was 2.0 and there was no metion of the macrocytic RBC.
What causes the RBC to go down? Is it the Riba or the Pegasys? Also have so many more sides compared to two weeks ago. No energy, coughing
I know I need Neupogen, just haven't gotten it yet. But Doc said that red blood cells were not bad. Is this macrocytic RBC causing the extra sides or just getting on down the road. (Week 12? of 48 on half dose Pegasys and full dose Riba)
If the riba is lowered, will the RB cells return to normal?
Losts of questions and haven't done shot yet.
Help!

If you caught your slightly larger than normal thang in the zipper before having sex with her, then yes its more possible to catch it from her.  Its blood to blood contact that transfers it.  Its more commonly spread from blood transfusions before 1992, tattooing, piercing, sharing IV drug needles, unclean dental, surgical, manicuring, or barber instruments.
Shame on ya for not using protection!  LOL, I know, you should though from now on, there are too many awful diseases lurking out there.  Good luck and dont panic!
