dark and light blood in diarrhea

hey all, i have chronic hep c, have not started any treatment yet and for the past week or so i have been having terrible stomach aches, loss of appetite and diarrhea with light and dark colored blood mixed within it. I am on a healthy diet and i don't do any drugs of any kind so this is kinda freaking me out and i don't want to go to the doctor until i have the money again.. i have been trying to research this online but i cant find anything that fits with my particular problem. i am worried that i may have cirrhosis or that my condition may be worsening. can anyone help with some info that may make me feel a little better about things.

I agree with everyone above.  I had a varice bleed once, and the stool was very soft and the blood was dark.  I went to the ER, and they admitted me quickly and addressed the issue.  My blood counts were low, and this was after only one day of bleeding, so I don't think that it is in your interest to wait any longer.

Please, get to the ER as soon as possible!!!  Only an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment will make you feel better.

Good luck to you.

Go to the ER today.  It is any one's guess what this could be.  It could be something minor, or possibly more serious.  We still live in a civilized country, and we do have emergency rooms that can not by law turn you away.  Sometimes our imaginations see things in a much worse light than they really are.  So, it is not fair to yourself to sit around and worry.  Also, any type of unusual bleeding needs immediate attention.  It could be something minor, but needs immediate attention and if you don't get the immediate attention, it could get worse.

You also need peace of mind.

Pick up yourself and go -- when you get back from the emergency room, let us know how you are.

Best of luck,
Debbie

I agree with Merrybe. You say that you have light and dark blood in your stools. That tells me that the blood is coming from your intestines. The farther up the digestive system that the blood comes from, the darker it is by the time it winds up in the toilet. If it has been bleeding for a week, it isn't going to fix itself, and it could easily get worse. My dad made the mistake of waiting and he wound up with a perforated bowel because the ulcer ate its way through to the abdomen... then he had to have emergency surgery and spend a few days in ICU... Now that was EXPENSIVE!!!! Go to a doctor before it gets to that stage and you will save a lot of money and misery.

That's my vote anyhow,
Diane

NO.
Said with love, but none-the-less said:

No one can make you feel a "little better" about having blood in your stool and symptoms of a major health issue.
You could have a hundred different things going on from liver failure, to gall bladder issues, to stomach ulcers, and a whole host of other things.

The main thing is you need to find out what's going on while somethings can be done to help you. There is nothing worse than not knowing, and just hoping things will get better on their own, they seldom do.

You need to be brave, be proactive, go straight in to ER,
they will see you with or without money.

You cannot wait until you can pay your doctor, if you are in an acute phase, and do nothing, it could prove fatal. There are treatments now to help all the conditions I mentioned, but you won't get better if you sit there like a deer caught in the headlights.

Get into ER NOW and get seen.
