My GGT has remained high throughout tx. I don't worry about it. ALT and AST normal range. No alcohol in years. I smoke, which can elevate GGT and I am also late stage 3
no alcohol for six months. this blood work done april 20 2009
One reason that GGT can be elevated is alcohol use/abuse. Any problems with that?

GGT is very non-specific for liver disease. So much so that it's left out of liver panels in many practices. I would not place any significance to an isolated raised GGT.
It's too high and so is your ALT (not too bad though.) With grade 3 on biopsy three years ago (and if these elevations in your recent labs are new, or if your doc is able to determine that these lab values have been consistently on the rise since you were first seen along with other values that are important when watching the liver with hep C, or if he has comparison lab work) if it's a hepatologist or even good liver doctor who's seeing you, then they should be able to tell you what might be going on and - if you're a candidate for treatment - advise you on that. Good luck.
I HAD BIOPSY 3 YEARS AGO GRADE3 STAGE1 GENOTYPE3
Have you had a biopsy yet? That is really the only way to tell exactly where you stand after having hep for 25 years. I never had any symptoms and didn't know I had the disease at all and when I had the biopsy.......stage 3 diagnosis.
I also had a pretty low VL at 568,000 so that really made no difference at all in my staging.
