lab question

Could anyone tell me what the next course of action should be for me. I was confirmed positive for hep c with intitial alt and ast enzymes at 4-5 times normal limit. I havent has anything else done besides hep c test and liver enzeme count. Thank you \

Hi there....You say you were tested positive for HCV....was that with an antibodies test or were you tested by PCR  to confirm active infection. The liver enzymes in themselves don"t really give much information other than to tell a doctor to investigate further.
If indeed you have active HCV infection you should be referred to a specialist who would do further testing as CaughtOff Guard has mentioned  to ascertain a treatment regime..

Hey Spanky, Welcome to the board!   I recommend you make an appointment with a gastro. They specialize in liver diseases.  They will probably do more bloodwork and possibly an ultrasound and liver biopsy. A biopsy is the best way to determine the extent of damage from the hep c.  The doctor will use the results of these tests to determine whether or not you need to start treatment right away.  I hope this helps!
