throwing in the towel

Had to leave work today, 3rd day of flu like symptoms.  Stopped running which shows how bad I really feel.  I'm going for extended leave from work until I finish telprevir on 10/21.  Call into docs office.  Not sure when I should get worried.  I didn't have a thermometer but I know my fever today was pretty high.  Went out to buy one so I can monitor. My chest is clear, no buring urine.  I wonder if taking these injectables in 3 day sequence is the problem.

Low grade fever or even in the 100's is a fairly common side effect of interferon.  The fever tends to start spiking in the early afternoon.  Fever is also associated with Neutropenia and some people develop fever from Neupogen as well.   In your case, could be any of the above.

You should start feeling much better after stopping the Incivek but the fever may persist.  It's the nature of the beast.

Please monitor your fever very closely and if you need to get to the doc do so. The NP told me last week when I went in that she had one patient in the ICU because of an infection. Even the minor things can turn serious quickly when your system is in a compromised state. I think it is worth a call to see if the doc thinks you need an antibiotic. Of course I know every patient is different and it could be nothing at all, but better safe than sorry. I hope you feel better soon!!!

I never had a fever before from tx.  I have 11 weeks of sick  time and another 200 hrs PTO, as well as short term disability.  So I am prepared.  When I was on SOC for 12 weeks it was hard but nothing like this and I never called in sick.  Thanks for your support Billy.

good for you...when your life means more then your health thats a problem...i say way to go!  stay with the tx is the important thing...i will tell you many times i thought my fever was high and it wan't that bad...i don't even check it anymore...its funny you never know when your going to hit a bad week..sometimes my skin feels so hot to me and i'll get my gf  checks it and its fine...other times she says i'm burning up and i feel fine..all my senses while on the incivek were shot....still not great but when i stopped the incivek they got much better then when i was on the incivek...maybe don't plan on going right back to work after the incivek...at least plan on a week after..i would also have a plan in place incase you can't work during the ria and interferon...that could happen...the goal is get through tx as i'm sure you know...good luck....billy

Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear this.  It is good you have the option of taking the extended leave.  And with you close to being done with Teleprevir, it may be just what you need.  Praying you feel better and that the symptoms subside soon.
