I didn't notice that! He should be cured now! YEA!
Since the thread is a year old, lets hope his cough is better.......:)
I too had the horrible cough, pretty much for the entire tx. Drinking water seemed to help a little bit. I seriously thought I had something else as I couldn't see how treatment could cause me to have such a bad cough. I went to my GP to get it checked out as I thought I had pneumonia, that's how bad it was. Turns out it was the Riba. I had a quick and significant drop in Hgb; not sure if that contributed. Anyway, I'm done with tx and no more respiratory problems. Hang in there. I know it's tough to deal with that cough but take heart in knowing it's temporary.

I had this cough too for about 3 weeks. I was coughing so hard I was peeing myself. AWFUL!!! I still get the cough once in a while but not like those awful weeks. My doc said it was a side effect and nothing to do about it! I started taking vitamin c after talking to the pharmacist. It seemed to work for me. So for me it got better!
A few things could be at play for you. You could possibly have a cough that come with a repiratory infection - that might be what the doc is treating. A known side effect of the treatment is a 'riba cough' which, at least for me, was annoying but not really life-affecting. After several weeks on treatment either the cough lessened or it was easier to ignore. The next one is a little more complicated. The riba that you take is probably decreasing the hemoglobin in your blood - it's what riba typically does. The result can be lack of energy, difficulty in catching your breath after simple exertion resulting in a cough. If that's the case, the doc probably already checks your hempglobin level with routine CBC's during treatment and should be able to notice it. If it's low there's another med for that which comes as a shot to increase hemoglobin. Ask the doc about it, it's called EPO or Procrit.
