"i am feeling pretty bad today. Hard to function. Sore muscles, cough, short of breath, headache, dizzy. I am a mess. "
You should call your treating doctor and let them know what is going on otherwise they can't make the proper modifications to your treatment. Which is by the way is reduction of the dosage of ribavirin, not transfusion or procrit.
Ribavirin label
"Decrease in hemoglobin of ≥2 g/dL during any 4 week period in patients with history of stable cardiac disease" reduce dosage to 1 x 200 mg tablet A.M. and 2 x 200 mg tablets P.M.
Once COPEGUS has been withheld due to either a laboratory abnormality or clinical adverse reaction, an attempt may be made to restart COPEGUS at 600 mg daily and further increase the dose to 800 mg daily.
However, it is not recommended that COPEGUS be increased to the original assigned dose (1000 mg to 1200 mg).
Good luck.

lots of us on tx have ended up in the er to play it safe...i'll bet your pulse is high...be careful
That is a quick drop.
If you can contact your hepatologist or treating doctor in the morning, I would do that asap. Or else, as Bo said, do go to the ER.
Thank you all for your input. I think I will go to er tomoro. I will take riba with me. I am done with incivek. Shot not till tues.
Oh dear, that sounds bad, piglet. Once it drops that fast, and low, something needs to be intituted, to change it right away.
If it is lower than 8.6, the E.R. may choose to give you a blood transfusion, which would make you feel better for about a week, but you will probably need a rescue drug, called Procrit also.
Are you in a Study, or just Treating regularly? The Procrit tends to take awhile to be approved, by the Specialty Pharmacy sometimes, but at 8.6, you and your Doctor should push for it to be delivered to you immediately.
If you are experiencing a faster than normal pulse,
or any kind of heart palpitation or pain, I wouldn't hesitate to go in.
If you are feeling afraid to go to sleep, for lack of breath, than I would also go in to the E.R., because it will help to get the ball rolling, with rescueing you from your low HGB, which could enterfere with your Treatment.
Remember to bring your ribaviran with you, your PI (Incivek or Victrelis, if you are and if you are on those)and if you Inf shot is due within the next 72 hrs, bring that shot with you as well, in a small ice-chest.
That way, if the Hospital keeps you for 3 days, you will have 3 days worth of your Tx meds to take. And bring an advocate with you, and have your preference written out to show the ER Doctors as well; that you in no way want your Hep C Treatment stopped, that low HGB is considered normal, with Hep C Triple Tx, and that you just need the rescue meds.
Ok
Thnks
I get weekly bloodwork but it dropped from 10.7 to 8.6 in one week. How do know if it has dropped anymore? I don't do bloodwork again till Monday but i am feeling pretty bad today. Hard to function. Sore muscles, cough, short of breath, headache, dizzy. I am a mess. Just wonderin if I should go to er
The only way to tell is with a blood test. While on treatment, you should be getting weekly cbcs, complete blood counts, at least at the start.
