lamisil and moderately elevated liver enzyme level

by elric, Oct 22, 2005 12:00AM
I am 35, 5'9" and weigh 204lbs. In March this year I visited my doctor with a toenail fungus. She put me on Lamisil. After a month, I returned and got tests done. My AST/ALT were normal. In the meantime, my doctor left her pratice so I started going to a clinic. I have been an Lamisil for 6 months now. I have found a new doctor and he had me take the tests again since I hadn't had any since the initial one in April. My Hepatitis screen was negative but my AST was 105 and my ALT was 90 or vice versa.

He told me the enzyme levels should drop but that I could not drink alcohol at all until the dosage was done.

So my questions are:
1) Does he mean the Lamisil dosage? I know Lamisil takes at least 4 weeks to flush out of the system.
3) I drank alocohol twice during the 6 months (1.5 ounce) each time. Would that amount of alcohol make a difference in the elevation?
4) When should I go get more tests to check the levels?

I hope you checked the answers to this question that you recently posted.  The basic suggestion was for you to contact a physician with those questions, there are none here. This is a patient to patient forum and no one can give medical advice. If you can't get to an MD then maybe a pharmacist or the drug company's helpline can assist you.

Sorry. Somehow I seem to have destroyed that other thread by posting a link.

This time, without the link, try:

Bookmarks>Bookmark Manager
File>Import

Hope that's what you're looking for.

The file won't get recognized. Do you think it somehow got infected with the virus? Maybe if I squirt a little peg on the hardrive?

Hmmmm. Mine exported to an html file (bookmarks.html). Each time I re-imported it, I got a duplicate set of bookmarks. Took a couple tries to notice that, so I now have 4-countem-4 identical sets of bookmarks. Well if I can't find it in one set, I'll most likely see it in another.... good fog proofing.

Also, simply clicking on the html file opens a page with clickable links representing all my exported bookmarks.

Good luck!

The exported bookmark file for some reasons is an Explorer html file named "bookmarks". I also changed the name to bookmarks.html but that didn't help. Could this be the problem. You would think the exported file  would be a Mozilla/Firefox file?

The file does open and I'm using it now like an independent bookmark directory but it would be nice to have it integrated back in the program.

The cheap fix is to open everything from the file in Mozilla and then re-bookmark the lot. Ughh.

My import window, FF v1.0, allows me to specify IE as the source. Maybe you can import it directly as an IE bookmark file -or maybe you need to (take a deep breath before reading on...) import it into IE first, then import that file into FF (possibly with an export from IE first)? Veggie-Yikes! (new word)

You say it's an Explorer html file? Wha' make you say dat? Is it because it automatically opens in IE when you click it? If so, that means the .html extension is mapped to IE, no big deal, you can change it if you care to.

What happens when you attempt to import the file into FF? Do you not see it in the file list? Does it throw an error when you click on it?

The big lower case "E" in the IE logotype is the giveaway. :)

Nothing happens when I click on it.

Anyway, I was at Circuit City earlier today and the guy tried to throw it into one of the buried folders in the operating system and it still didn't work. At this point, it will be a lot easier to re-create the bookmarks.

Yeah -  that just means it's mapped to IE. Like a .txt file might show a Notepad logo, or a .jpg might show a Paint logo, or a Photoshop logo, or whatever. My .html files show a firefox logo. Anyway, sorry we couldn't get you sorted. Good luck. Lemme know if you have further problems and we can try again.

I though the lamisil tablets were to only be taken for 3 months.  Lamisil is hard on the liver.  My doc gave them to me for 90 days only and I waited til I finished tx so that we would know it was the lamisil and not the tx that would cause my liver enzymes to spike.  I tested liver enzymes after 6 wks on the lamisil and all was fine.

I would check with your dr and see if he really wants you to continue the lamisil.  Personally, I would stop it.  It takes 10-12 months for your toenails to grow out but you don't need lamisil that entire time.

Are you sure you didn't work for Apple tech support once? When I hear the words "format" or "reinstall operating" system -- that's when i generally hang up after eliciting a few choice words.

I never worked for or owned an Apple and I stopped messing around with building computers and programming them after a miserable experience with linux red hat 5.0. Red Hat had to be the absolute worst version of linux possible.  I got it to work in a pentium 166 beater system with a dual-boot, but could never get the sound to work.  With an old compaq laptop, the sound driver was there, but the video was not.
With my old systems, I'd back everything up on cd (I bought a 1-2X Ricoh CD burner back in 1997 for $400 and still have it sa it is now worth about 25 cents)and if I had a problem or some trojan horse that I could not get out of the system, it was FDISK and FORMAT city.  Hell of a way to clear wasted drive space.  Sort of like a computer enema.

Sometimes I miss the old days of Dos when you had control of what was under the hood. Not that the computer every worked perfectly but then again it wasn't expected to. Now, I haven't a clue what to do when my new computer starts acting up. Right now my WiFi keeps going on and off line although the connection icon shows all bars go. So in some order to be decided gotta I got to troubleshoot the new softwear, try a new router, call the cable company to check the signal, or lastly send back my new computer within the 2-week trial period and start all over again. Bad enough without Peg and Riba. :)
