lots of water a week before starting tx?

I have another question. I begin tx Aug. 3rd. One week away. My Dr. did not say anything about drinking alot of water this week, but from what I can see  from all the posts, this is SUPER important...should I begin drinking water today? And if so, how much???

I am so glad to meet you both. I know how scary it is, but I also know that we will make it through this with each others support and reading all these posts how can we not?? LOL. This (forum) I will say again, is a hand of God and is one of His ways to comfort and support us. I am so grateful.

Were you told to down the water by your nurse yet?? I was told about it on here..to start a week before..but my nurse forgot to tell me about that IMPORTANT part of it. She really apologized for it so it must be really important.
I think being a geno type 2 (from what I have heard) is an awesome sign!! Sounds like we may get through this in a shorter length of time and have a better chance of staying cleared in the long run. God Bless you and hope to hear from ya soon.

Please...it's NOT the end of the world!  I understand first hand why you are nervous though...that is for sure.

I have worked throughout treatment because I'm a single mom and also NEED the insurance because this treatment will cost me well over 100,000 when it's done and I just don't have it!

We have some good days and some bad days but this course of treatment - while it IS chemotherapy - is not in most cases THAT bad.

You will learn to rest more and take things easier if you have to but a LOT of people do NOT have any effects on the first night (I did not have ANY fever or chills or anything).

Once on tx different problems will most likely come up but you will get used to asking advice and dealing with them.

The % of those working still is VERY high as I don't believe we are able to collect any disability...so we have to.

Hang in there and try and relax.

I start treatment on or about the 3rd of August too and I'm scared to death. I told my hubby that this is the last week for me to laugh. Because when I start, I,m not sure I'll be able to laugh again. Let's keep in touch here mkeela. I would like to know what works for you, and I'll let you know how I do by posting here. I see my dr tomorrow, I guess he'll give me the presciption. Good luck.

I only drank a few glasses of water a day on TX ,more than that made my feel like **** feeling worse.I would think 8 glasses a day would be plenty of water while on TX.For those that need something to believe in to feel better I guess water is better than a sugar pill.Later.

I always remember the old saying...dring 10 8oz glasses of water a day.  Now that is 80oz.  More than 1/2 my body weight but some days I do it without trying.

Liquids are your friend. My GI said it flushes out your liver of toxins.

Good stuff re: lotion.  I'll start that today.  I wonder if I misunderstood you, though - is drinking 1/2 gal of water painful for you?  I drink mine in a huge wine goblet and pretend it's booze.  Yeah, I pee a lot, even at night, but then I don't sleep much anyway.

I would suggest everything in moderation. not to over do it. Water, yes - it helps reducing the sides and we need it to fight dehydration, but just as important is to have fat in the diet when you take the riba. It helps with absorbing it and I get less sides when taking it with some fat (buttered toast, banana, etc) and then we are not just flushing out the riba with all the water intake.

Since we are simply "giant bags of water", to borrow a term from an alian sci-fi movie, (i.e. most of our body composition is water), it's importance makes sense.  I understand that in addition to flushing liver toxins, large consumptions flush many other things as well.  On reason why someone going on their first mission to remote regions are advised to also drink at least half their body weight in oz's, if not more, to purify their bodies before leaving as they could be hosts of diseases fatal to those they will be working with in addition to being victims of diseases to which they may not have ever been exposed.

Thanks!  I'm only 8 weeks in, so don't know if the wine goblet gimick will hold out later on.  I'll remember what you said when I hit the water wall.

Doc said it's not necessary to drink as much water as we have in here.

I always followed the rule rigidly and just couldn't even LOOK at water after a few months. It seemed like my JOB to keep drinking it down!

And then he laughed at me and said fluid is fluid water is the best but if you are ALSO drinking other things during the day...you don't have to push that much in.

It made sense I just never really thought about it and kept saying Must.Drink.60.ounces.of.WATER!

Blahahaha.  He's right of course.  :)  I might have dried out skin and be a bit dehydrated but I'm hardly ILL whatsoever (you know just recently they came out and said the 8 glasses of water a day thing is BS too).

IO much prefer a glass of iced tea on a hot night and a cup of coffee at breakfast etc. and they COUNT.  The caffeine doesn't dehydrate you all that much.

I drank half my body weight in ounces for a long time when I started - until I asked my doctor and he said it shouldn't really be PAINFUL.  That when we are dehydrated (like these medications WILL DO to you) we need to drink more - but it's not necessary to just chug down water as I also drink coffee, tea, juice and stuff during the day.

So try to drink keeping in mind not to dehydrate - but basically don't hurt yourself.  (And believe me by the third bottle of water at noon I might as well have just stayed in the bathroom at work and not bothered leaving).

At night....as much water as you drank during the day seems to all want to come out.  By a good night light because you WILL be up to pee several times a night.

Don't forget to moisturize your SKIN several times a day = it is the largest organ we have and really pays a price for the meds.

Yes,do drink water NOW!  You should drink half your body weight in ozs.  ie: I began tx at 125 lbs., so I should drink 62.5 oz/day.  I'm rather simple so I round it up and drink 64oz or half a gallon a day.
