new meds

Got an e-mail from my doc at kaiser to make an appt for blood work etc. He thinks the new meds will be approved by the end of May and ready for patient use maybe 1 to 2 months after that.  Kinda scarry to actually planning to start tx even after reading posts in here for so long.  Seems like everytime I get all my ducks in a row they swim away.

Has anyone heard of the meds being approved earlier than May?

I don't know what the amount they will make and when will the telaprevir be available for everybody. I'm just saying that for 1a its better to wait for this new meds. I have to find out when it will be available for everybody.

What I do know is that in may 23 the FDA will make the decision to approve or not approve telaprevir. I think they will have it available for public as soon as possible.

Telaprevir is the new meds. It brings that chances for the genotype 1a from a 40% to a 75% of achieving SVR and also it can reduce the time from 1 year to six month of treatment. The FDA is making a decision on may 23, all the trials are very very good and its almost a shoe in that it will be approved. What I don't  know is how long it will be after the approval for all of us to have it on our hands.

If you are about to begin treatment and you are 1a. I suggest that you wait for this drug. I started treatment last year and stopped at six month cause didn't go UND at six month. So I'm waiting for the new drugs. Genotype 1a is the toughest to get rid of so this new meds will help us in time and in percentage to achieve SVR. The treatment wasn't very hard but the dissapointment was not acheiving UND. So wait for the meds cause it will be better to acheive SVR.

Any more question be glad to answer since I've been through the whole process.

If they know they are going to approve it why do they wait the whole 6 months.?  I thought that was the max time...

No. Six months after the application date, that was 11/23/10, thus 5/23/11.
