Markers post interferon?

Hi all my hubby went through interferon trial, liver function 'normal' at end of trial. About 7 years later during cancer treatment he was told there was no evidence of Hep C in the various tests they ran? Would Hep C markers just disappear like that?
original Hep diagnosis was non A non B then they started calling it Hep C. The trial was horrendous ordeal with lots of side effects yet it did seem to help.

Best regards,

Salt

Do you know if he actually cleared the virus because of the trial? Some people do clear the virus on their own and there have even been cases where some no longer had antibodies. But like bill said usually you have AB's for life.

Bottom line is your husband not having HCV is great news and can put all his efforts into fighting the cancer. By the way if you don't mind me asking, what type of cancer does your husband have?

Best of luck

Hi Salt—

If he treated successfully in the trial, he’d be expected to have no measurable RNA virus in his blood. However, the antibodies should be detectable for life; this prevents those that have had successful resolved their disease from donating blood, etc. If you want to explore this further, ask for copies of the labs in question, and someone here will help interpret them with you.

Good luck with the cancer management,
