Magnum, I wonder if Mary4now is referring to the patient in Seattle a couple of years back that was denied by his transplant center *in spite* of having a prescription for herb? I believe he was a musician, now that I think of it. I guess the TP center establishes its own parameters; this poor schmuck apparently died as a result.
“The death this week of a musician who said he was denied a liver transplant because of his medical-marijuana use has highlighted a new ethical consideration: Should pot use with a doctor's blessing be held against a dying patient who needs an organ transplant?
Timothy Garon, 56, used marijuana to ease the symptoms of advanced hepatitis C. Dr. Brad Roter, the physician who authorized Garon to smoke pot to alleviate nausea and abdominal pain and to stimulate his appetite — a use authorized under a Washington state law approved by voters in 1998 — said he had not known it would be such a hurdle if Garon were to need a transplant.
Garon died Thursday, one week after he said he learned from his doctor that a University of Washington Medical Center committee had again denied him a spot on the liver-transplant list.” (more in the article…)

Yes indeed.
My doctor had no problems with my using it.
Whatever it takes to get through tx.
Funny but sometimes when I post something, some words appear twice together, like my last post "different different". I didn't type it that way...

Maybe if he had a Medical Marijuana card prescribed by the doctor it may have been a different story after they checked his blood for traces of THC?

I also remember some musician who had been prescribed pot for his hep c and was refused a transplant because he was smoking pot. go figure.

Did not work for me during treatment, not even, made me MORE aware of how very miserable I was, different strokes. I was pretty much bed ridden during tx. jm
My partner used to be a smoker but he finds it actually makes him more nauseus on treatment .......go figure. At the clinic my partner attends in toronto they are doing a wide scale study on marajuana use for symtoms and treatment with hep C - I will see if I can get a link to the study. To date, their study suggests it is not toxic to liver .......but as bill states its fairly ambiguous
I am using pot, it helps me with many side effects including sleeping.....My liver enzymes went down by half. Big improvement.
You're a funny guy Bill, but logical in your delivery. Hahaha...
Yes, you certainly want to be sure you still don't like it, otherwise I imagine you couldn't live with yourself...

I smoked pretty much everyday on treatment. It helped sooo much with being able to sleep, eat, and not feeling like i wanted to kill someone. I cleared at week 4 during treatment and the virus is still gone 12 weeks post treatment.
I tend to smoke a little every six months, just to be sure I still don’t like it any more :o). I used to smoke a lot though, many years ago. I agree with Magnum that the existing studies are a little ambiguous; that is, in terms of promoting fibrosis. Have you discussed this with your doctor?
A word of caution if you plan on entering into clinical trial; they might not accept you if you smoke; I think it varies from trial to trial.

My doctor has prescribed it for me during my last treatment and ever since. It's been about 4 years that I've used it in moderation only before going to sleep because in my case I have Insomnia and without it I sleep about 2-3 hours. He has doubts as to whether the tests have been conducted to prove 100% that in moderation pot causes Fibrosis.
If he felt 100% that it did, he would not renew my prescription for it as he did again last month. My doctor is no slouch and does a lot of studying and reading. I use a vaporizer and do a couple of hits nightly to help me sleep since sleeping pills don’t work for me and they have many many more side effects that I and others believe are much more toxic to the liver. A vaporizer greatly reduces the carcinogens in pot. Google Ambien CR sleeping pills for example and see the very scary side effects. Otherwise, it's up to you...

Some people say it helps them through, less nausea, less anxiety and depression. There are studies that suggest that weed promotes fibrosis.
