Morphine ss well as most opioid compounds are considered liver friendly analgesics; some like oxycodone can be combined with acetaminophen, and overuse can lead to hepatotoxicity.

Viral load in itself doesn’t necessarily correlate with disease severity; one can have a consistently high viral load with little fibrosis, and conversely, a low viral load with very significant damage. My viral load never exceeded 150,000 IU/ml, but I had grade 3, stage 3/4 liver disease.

Good luck; have you considered undergoing treatment for your HCV?

I used morphine during tx.  I wasn't allowed to have tylenol.

Morphine must be okay for the liver because that's what they used when I was in the ICU following my liver transplant.

Be VERY careful with morphine. I was on it for 7 days and went wacky with hallucinations of all kinds.

No; fortunately, I tolerated the treatment drugs fairly well. I treated the second time for 96 consecutive weeks, and have now been virus free since August 2008.

Are you a relapser as well?

Just curios; what is the name of the new med your doctor is talking about?

Good luck—

I research everything I take.  There are several different sites (like rxlist and drugs.com) that gather all of the label info and print it together.  Drugs that are labeled as potentially causing liver damage are to be completely avoided.  Those that are labeled to use with caution in patients with impaired hepatic (liver) function usually refer to the fact that they won't hurt the patient but the patient will not be able to process a full dose and should be prescribed a smaller dose.  Wikipedia is a pretty good short-cut way to research meds and often has links to where they got the info that showed up in Wiki.

Listen to your doctor when he prescribe a drug. There are many drugs which can potentially cause liver damage and yet are safe and beneficial at the right dose. I have taken a bunch on the bad list and still take 2 currently. MY ALT is 12 / AST 17 / Total Bilirubin .8.
There are usually no fast and hard rules. After my liver transplant I was prescribed Tylenol but, not to exceed 1 gram per day. I took Tylenol during almost 4 years of treatment and I'm doing fine. I would guess that Tylenol is at the top of the list of drugs that can potentially cause liver damage. At the right dose it's OK.
Make sure you have a good doctor and then double check his advice.

I should have said to follow the doctor's advice, as well. Tylenol shows up as a potential liver damager, but doctors usually allow up 1,000 to 2,000 mg (1-2 grams) daily since it is the over the counter pain reliever that does the least liver damage and they can't very well just say "Go home and suffer".  Tylenol should not harm you if taken according to your personal doctor's recommendations.

I took morphine for 5 days after a motorcycle accident. And then I took Oxycontin and Oxycodone daily for 3+ months.

I don't know that tylenol is prescribed as the otc drug that causes the least liver damage as much as it is an over the counter drug that doesn't have some of the risk factors of aspirin or nsaids in terms of bleeding, Reye's syndrome, etc.
