HOORAY! TX EXTENDED TO 72 WEEKS!

YEAH!!   My DR's have agreed to let me extend TX up to 72 weeks.   I have a hemotologist/oncologist who is closely monotoring my Labs since I have been on Neupogen since wk 3.  I am thrilled!  I feel so much more confident for SVR now.

Thanks to this forum and its members for educating me and giving me courage to be my own advocate.

Who would have ever thought being allowed to extend this stuff could make us excited?

Best of luck to you

PJ I know how tought it is money wise (just ask me!) lately for so many people.  Is that why you did a trial the first time and not peg and riba instead?  how bad is the copay (God we learn to hate insurance companies dont we?).

If you could do the SOC it might be the golden ticket but you are right you would have time to later do a PI.  Still thank God you are only 2/2 and do have wiggle room (my really scientific verbiage for it anyway) left....

It's all such a giant crapshoot - you can never know what will happen.  But........we'll all be behind you no matter which you do decide you know.

ok so you are like slow responders and not non-responders or breakthroughs...

so if you are not und by wk 24 on SOC there is no point in continuing with tx... is that an accurate statement??

im still thinking of trying SOC just to see what happens, i can always tx later with PI if they approve it... problem is the $$ for the co-pay and my husband just got laid off so now its an even bigger problem

Just read your profile - you should be fine this is the way to go as your numbers are pretty close to mine.........it worked for me and I pray to God it works for you too!

have Hep C for 20plus years, I am a 1a with a beginning VL of 2.25000.  I became UND between weeks 12-24 with a VL of 1100 At wk 12.  My BX results are a 2/3.

Yes if you are not UND by week 24 your chances are pretty grim.
The criteria for extension is if you are still detectible by week 12 continue to 72 IF UND at week 24.

I had a count of 411 at week 4, 419 at week 12 and UND at week 24 so I continued to 72.

I can't remember how I came up with it but I figured it increased my chances about a third to continue and I have been SVR for two years. I am sure without it, I would not.

The Berg Study and Sanchez Tapias studies are the data I used a few years ago to make my decision at a time it was considered "experimental".  Now however it is much more common place and seems to be working out well for some of us.

Donnie - at what week did you become UND?

Wish you the best Donnie.  It's a long, hard road but we can do it!!  I llook at it as one more week behind me rather than 72 wks of treatment.  Minimizes the psycological impact on me!!  LOL  Good Luck, stay the course and with grace and luck we'll get that SVR.
