It has helped me a great deal. Yes it does make you very sleepy dizzy etc. for the few days. You can break your pill in half and do that for a week and then increase as you feel comfortable. It is really a very helpfull pill. I have cronic back pain...It has been a great help. Just a thought
As everyone has said you will feel better. I was on it for a short while on tx and when I stopped I felt weird, sunlight bothered me, even opening the blinds bothered me. It got better
A friend of mine helped me because she had taken after a spinal fusion and while she thought it worked well she developed problems from it
Hang in there :)
Thanks everyone..didn't take drug last night and feel better..I think I will work on diet. I had neuropathy in 2007 on tx..it took 2 years to get rid of it so at least I know it will go away. i can't take more side effects.
I was on neurontin for nerve pain following a spinal injury and prior to surgery. It relieved my nerve pain and the side effects lessened after a few days. I didn't take the full dose though, and I stopped taking it after the surgery.

I got my blood sugar under control to reduce the effects of diabetic neuropathy and started taking a fancy Rx form of B vitamin, since part of my neuropathy seemed to be related to low levels of B.
My neurologist didn't feel there was any connection to my tx, since the onset was several years after I cleared.
I accidentally checked best answer,,,all answers are best..crazy on this drug..
how did you deal with the neuropathy?
I've been on neurontin (gabapentin)for about 2 1/2 years now..Helps me a great deal.
Osteo in my spine resulting in nerve issues- really kicked up about 6 months post bilateral hip replacement. I take 300mg in the am & pm.

I cannot take this drug ever..I am slurring my words and drifting..I think it has made me forget my feet are burning because I know it is still there...thanks for your feedback..I will wait til this wears off..\Mary
I took it for a while a few years ago. It really helped me a lot. I had to go off it because it just made me too drowsy. One time when I was at a stop light I just started dreaming. Right there in the middle of the intersection. I remember the first couple of days I felt dizzy and like I couldn't focus. "weird" is a good way to put it. It was a feeling I did not like. I remember not wanting to be alone which is very unusual for me. All that wore off in three or four days though. I only managed to take it for about 45 days. I felt great during the day but as I said it just made me too sleepy. I remember consuming massive amounts of coffee and any other stimulant I could think of to stay alert and being amazed how it had no effect.
It was too bad because I really did feel better when I was on it.
Like any med you have to give your body a chance to get used to it. But yes that funky feeling does wear off. Hang in there :)
I thought that stuff was kind of scary too. I have major chronic pain from spinal cord damage and require narcotic painkillers for it. There are doctors out there who dislike narcotics for any reason and the last time I had surgery one of those pain specialists was consulted. They insisted on putting me on neurontin, and it really messed me up. Even when I thought I had things under control again I didn't really. I was falling down all the time! When I had a nonsensical fall that resulted in severe swelling and bruising of my hip I finally quit taking the drug. That hip is still tender, seven years later! If you must take it, be extra careful!
