Welcome to this forum. We give and get allot of LOVE here and you'll receive the best information from patient to patient whether treating and not treating. I'm sorry you have hepatitis C.
I treated for 56 weeks, 8 weeks past my recommended treatment time for my 1a genotype. I am 47/female. It was a long 56 weeks with ups and downs...lots of ups and lots of downs. I had to also take Procrit in order to do the hepC tx drugs and keep my red blood count up to an acceptable level. The Pegasys and ribavirin continued to deplete my rbc drastically.
I couldn't work during my tx time. I worked in the capacity of higher level management and I couldn't think and sort out all that goes with it. My mind wasn't great on the drugs.
My treatment finished the end of May this year. The treatment can be done, it is not easy whatsoever and will take tons of determination in order to start and finish. The are huge good results with the treatment drugs. I wish you all the luck and strength to get through this rather you start your treatment or not.
You and in the best place to find out information and to get and give support.

After my first shot I was sick starting about 7 hours later. I just took a couple of Tylenot PM, went to sleep and it was gone the next day. Congratulations on starting your tx. It will be over before you know it.
Honey,
How are you feeling since starting Procrit? It's done wonders for me. I can actually do something about cleaning this house up, (if I so choose)NOT! I hate the shots though, they really hurt!
it also depends on the medications you are given, some forms of interferon have different reactions in the same individual. that is one consideration. I chose Pegasys because I read it had less severe reactions. The direct effect of the meds is not the only reason we feel sick, the anemia that develops has its own set of troublesome sides. if you consider tx, you need to know whether your dr will intervene when these problems surface, you don't want to find out the hard way, that he won't.
check the prior posts below for other responses to newly diagnosed.
wow! That helped alot. It was getting pretty darn scared. thanks for giving me some hope that the sides may not be too much to handle. I'll keep checking in and getting hoping and encouragement as I walk through this. Thanks for being out there. This is the first time I have every logged onto a web chat or forum. You've been a real blessing! Sincerely, Virginiaborn
Sorry to hear about your HCV dx but welcome to the forum. It is different for everyone on tx. It does really vary from person to person. I didn't have any sides for a couple months when I started but others are sick right away then it gets easier. Many feel the anticipation to starting is filled with anxiety and this is actually worse than actually starting. This is not a great answer but that is the way it is. I am sure others will chime in. I wish you the best and hope to see you around. You will find plenty of info and support here. Take care. LL
Big congratulations from a fellow 1b. Keep celebrating!
Hi Welcome to the forum. My first shot,,,I felt pretty bad for few hours,,,feverish, and yes flu like but not for whole weekend. Rest of weekend I was kinda tired and run down feeling but am now on week 40. There is rough spots here and there but it is all doable. Good Luck to you!
Everyone reacts differently to the meds so there is no way to know for sure how your body will react until you begin tx. For me, I was sick for one day after the shot for the first 2 wks. After that, I did pretty well with exception of migraines. Dr then prescribed Imitrex for the migraines and from that point on I really had no problems other than I was fatigued all the time. I still got out and walked and tried to get some light exercise just b/c I knew I would feel more energetic after doing something other than just lying around the house. At least that's what worked for me.
You will have good wks and bad wks and you'll never know until it hits you. Our reactions to these meds are unpredictable.
BTW, I was a 1B, F, 596,000 beg VL, age 47. Just finished 48 wks of tx mid-September and was still undetectable at 4 wks post-tx.
Tx is very doable for most people. I can only suggest doing it while you are younger rather than older. It seems, for me, that the older I get the harder any type tx is on my body and my mind.
Good luck with your research and in making your decision whether to tx now or later.
i have shot 4 this friday no sides yet just a little eye pressure
First and foremost I am sorry you have to deal with this disease.
