sorry about my confused post above. I realized in the middle of the post that your son does not have HCV but forgot to make the correction earlier. Bottom line if he doesn't have HCV, I see no reason the fact that you had it should be on his chart
The first question is how did this information get on your son's chart. It would appear that he gave them the info although I've never seen a questionaire asking if any of my parents had HCV. Since HCV can be transmitted in a small minority of cases at birth, I suppose the surgeon was wondering if perhaps your son had been infected so he would take extra precautions which he is supposed to anyway. As to mentioning it in a room full of people, at the least this sounds insensitive, at the most possible a violation of patient's privacy which you might file a complaint for. Does your son have Hepatitis C? If not, I really have no idea why this is on your son's chart other than he offered up the info and the nurse or doctor just wrote it down. Personally, I would ask to have this removed from his chart because he does not have HCV and in the future tell him never to bring it up when he sees a doctor.
