Good post! I have a friend that has just finished a round of Interferon taken for melanoma spread to lymphs.
What is in a name? That which we call a rose would smell as sweet by any other. .....unless it is crapweed or stenchblossom! :-O
Can't remember who posted this recently, but here it is again. Good site.

I have a co-worker with carcenoid cancer who will be treating with Alpha Interferon (starting a trial the same time as me) which is described about the same as the Peg Interferon but used mainly for cancer:
Drug type: Alpha Interferon is a "biologic response modifier." Alpha Interferon is classified as a "cytokine." (For more detail, see "How this drug works" section below).
What this drug is used for:
Approved for use in hairy cell leukemia, malignant melanoma, AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Other uses: Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), renal cell cancer, cervical cancer, carcinoid syndrome, medullary thyroid cancer, multiple myeloma, basal and squamous cell skin cancers, low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (mycosis fungoides).
Blood disorders such as: polycythemia vera, essential thrombocytopenia, thrombocytopenia purpura
Yep...and tomato is a fruit....not a veggie...LOL

CHEMO SHEMO...its all the same to me...DRUGS.
After reading your bio that Trinity posted above I would be very concerned about working with chemicals that could be worse for you than drinking
I would get a good mask and gloves that do not allow any chemicals to seep into your pores and protective eyewear I would discuss the type of chemicals with your Doctor this could be a serious issue for you and your health just a thought, Definatley an issue if you decide to treat I would think?
Looks like a diagnosis of HepC to me.

hey all i am so confused with all of this, my doc recommended meds, i have some scarring on liver and chronic hep c, waiting for blood results to find out what genotype i am. i have worked at my job for 3 years now, and have never taken a real vacation, i have always had to use my vacation time and sick time because i kept getting the pain under right breast which first time it happened i thought i had broken my ribs, i kept going to doctor and they would give me pain meds which helped. finally my doctor referred me to a rhemetologist because i had pain again, and really have pain everywhere, i told him that the minor aches and pains i can live with, but when that pain starts on my right side there is no way in hell that i can work. my job is very physical and i am constantly breathing in cleaning chemicals. the rhemetoid doc is the one that informed me that i have chronic hep c. what advice would you give for my job , i do not want to lose my insurance or my job, but am very scared that i cannot handle it. thanks
Your previous posts (i.e. health coverage and interpetation of lab results) indicate you are considering the possibility you may have a health condition that could require some type of treatment or lifestyle change.
The members of this forum offer A LOT of excellent advice or provide a resource to research to investigate more detailed concerns; however. as Geterdone explained in response to your lab result question: there was no indication of a diagnosis of Hepb or HCV. Many Initial concerns about possible treatment for a condition (if any) you may have will be allayed if you see a GI or HepDoc.
The chemotherapy that you'd get for cancer isn't used to treat hepatitis C but hepatitis C treatment can have side effects that are akin to what patients experience when they receive cancer chemotherapy. The peginterferon-ribavirin combination is sometimes loosely called chemotherapy. Some doctors don't like to give it that negative connotation and try to keep things positive for patients. However, many doctors do call it chemotherapy (mine being one) while others call it treatment for their viral infection or antiviral therapy.

This is a common discussion on this forum. The true definition of chemotherapy is "treatment of an illness by chemical means." So, yeah....and if you read up on side effects posted here, treatment of HCV can, sometimes, sound worse than a therapy that you think of treating a cancer. It's a judgement call. To me, yes...it is chemo-therapy..
Exactly I tell my family and close friends that is what interferon is like Chemo which I think it is It is Not Chemo but a sister to Chemo I am not that informed on Chemo but I have read a lot about interferon seems the symptoms and side effects are similar
