yes i was thinking of upping the riba and not the injection but the nurse started talkin bout pen like injection dat is weight based???????
im defo goin 2 hav a chat wit doc on thurs wen i see him bout upping my riba.
thanx
Oops, it seems my post didn't quite come out right.
The WEIGHT BASED guidelines as far as I know are:
800mgs Riba per day UNDER 75kgs.
1000/1200 Riba per day OVER 75kgs.
Hey SantaClaus! Great name!!
Anyway, I'm Gt3a, female, weigh 78kgs and I am on 1200 Riba.
My understanding is that the older protocol for G3 is 800mg per day regardless of weight but the newer protocols are tending towards weight based for G3 as it seems it is more akin to G1 that previously thought.
I believe the weight guides are 800mgs per day 75kgs.
I was a previous non responder to the combo treatment so I think that's why they have put me on the weight based Riba dose this time.
My hb plummeted in the first month and they adjusted my dose down to 1000mgs per day but as soon as my blood came back up to a low normal I asked to go back up to 1200 as I believe more is better when treating G3.
I am having way more sides than I had on my previous treatment which I consider to be a good thing as this time I am responding to treatment and have been UND since week 4 (that was my earliest VL test so I don't know for sure when I went UND). Also I was on a trial for a PI so that may also have factored into my going UND early and good response to treatment.
I found the first couple of weeks pretty good, just a feeling of being quite spacey but then the sides kicked in with a vengeance and I got pretty much every sx you have probably read about. I'm in week 19 now and they have tapered off or I am getting used to them!
Anyway, I hope you will discuss your Riba dose with your doc and medical team as I feel strongly that treating 3a is underestimated and in the case of Riba more is better if you can handle to sx.
Please let us know how you get on.
All the best :)
I felt some sides after the first shot..few hours after...while it was pretty uncomfortable, I have heard of peoplke that had it a lot worse. I am just glad I have some time off work, because the way I feel, I would never be able to function at work....
I was talking about the riba, not the injection. It is preferable to be on weight based riba.
You could start a new thread so it will be easier seen and hopefully someone can explain it better than me.
I am still looking for the guidelines--they were recently posted--just had to take a break to cook dinner-sorry.
thanx. i can prob go on a pen like injection dats weight based but why up the injection and not the riba?
ill ask questions on thursday wen i see doc next and find out more bout it.
thanx again isobella
I am sorry about your inflammation. But glad to hear otherwise the sides are light.
Your riba does sound low. I am 72kb and take 1000mgs--if I weren't in a trial, I would have fought for 1200mgs because I know I am in the upper limits for the weight.
If I can find the guidelines, I will post them for you.

hi all, went 2 hos 2day and doctor said my liver was inflame, i asked wat my vl was the week b4 tx and was told 16.8m, 3 months earlier it was 1.6m so i was told.
i asked for copies of my results so shud hav dem nxt thurs as they were not very forthcomin. i know my hb is 16.4 so dat seems gud.
also im 90.8kg and on 180 peg and 800 rib. does dat sound right????????
im not really getin any sides but hav a heavy chest las 2-3days,
My first 4 weeks were ok-little discomforts with GI issues, dry mouth-but nothing big. Then the fatigue hit. As my body adjusted and I adjusted my schedule I was ok until week 7 when my blood levels started to drop.
I am still realy fatigued and I have some GI issues, but that's about it. So, I feel pretty fortunate compared to some others that have really had a hard time of it.
Just be kind to your body. You will learn when you can push through and when you need to rest. And of course, drink lots of water.
I hope you continue to feel normal as long as possible. Enjoy all the good days and rest on the not so good ones :-)
And please do keep us posted.

Sorry not very talkative today... I'm hitting the fatigue and no energy wall big time.

i notice ur on shot 5
jus wondering if you got any sides along the way?
I had hardly any sides at all, was just feeling a bit 'funny' as if I had taken a very low dose of valium.

Everyone is different. Some react very strongly to the first shot. I never even had to take a paracetamol.
