superbug Staph infections

Does any of this sound familiar?

Antibiotic-resistant staph infections, usually involving the skin, are showing up more often among healthy people. Here are some prevention tips:

— Wash hands thoroughly and often with soap and water.
— Keep cuts and abrasions clean and covered with a bandage until healed.
— Avoid contact with other people’s wounds or material contaminated by wounds.
— Do not share items such as razors, soap, ointments and balms, towels or wash cloths, clothing or uniforms.
— If participating in contact sports, cover cuts, scrapes and other wounds with a bandage.
— Shower with soap immediately after each practice or game. Wipe down all nonwashable equipment (mats, head protectors, gymnastics equipment, etc.) with alcohol or antibiotic solution after each person uses it.
— If caring for someone with an infection at home, wash hands with soap after each physical contact and before going outside. Only use towels for drying hands once. Change and launder linens frequently, right away if they are soiled.
— When contact with body fluids is expected, wear disposable gloves and wash hands after removing them.
— See a physician promptly if you have a suspicious skin sore or boil.

Yikes!

Honestly, don't listen to me. I'm just a skeptic who didn't believe I could possibly have liver disease . So what do I know ?

But, I did see a gorgeous large red shouldered hawk today.

Hawke,

I know what you mean but in the avian flu 'hoax' millions of innocent birds are threatened with extinction.

With the staph, it's just the bacteria.

I heard it on NPR.
I wonder if thats why I've been so reluctant to let my liverhead go down my throat with his camera.

However, I don't give much credence to predictions. I was in Thailand while everyone was going ballistic about Avian bird flu. How many died from that? A handful?

p.s. The grape harvest is over and the turkeys are back on my hillside. Gobble.

My sister-in-law had this back in 1996 or 1997.....it was awful!  She had boils all over her stomach and the doctors were not helping much.  She was told that she would not live long.  Approximately 2 years later they figured out a way to keep her body from producing the boils.  It was so terrible!!MRSA was just being talked about and nobody really knew what to do.  She had 4 kids, 2 very young, plus her husband.  She bleached everything daily (floors, bathrooms, kitchen), including her sheets.........I don't know how she kept up with everything, but she did and she's doing great now.  She's in Michigan and we are in Florida which was a good thing.  If I had ever been in contact with her when she had an outbreak, I would have gotten it and would surely have died with my horrible immune system.  Now that I'm SVR and she hasn't had an outbreak in years we feel safe to be with each other and in fact have.  We are both very blessed!

I carry around a bottle of Purell Sanitizing Gel and use is frequently, especially during the flu season, they make one of them which is also moisturing.  I also get my flu shot.   I'll find out in a few days if my white cells have come back up.  Dr.'s thought it odd that after being off treatment for 3 mon. that they would still be low like that.  That's why I'm having to get them rechecked again.

ps - susan - I was whining on forum the other day about taking neupogen and wanting to stop.

After reading this, guess I'll continue. (My levels have been at Alert status for 11 months, ever since starting TX).

Even Me-Queen Hermitess and company can't seclude ourselves against everything.

Now I know how Howard Hughes musta felt.  *LOL*
