I have been living with chronic hepatitus c since the early eighties and am at stage 1 in the scarring of my liver. Without treatment what can I expect? and how quickly can I progress to stage 2?

as a stage 1 you have the option to wait until the new drugs come out in a few years. personally i would wait to have a much better chance to clear the virus and even more important a shorter course of treatment.  best of luck

I to contracted hep c in the 80s through a transfusion, I was in stage 2 fibrosis.  I've just completed 48 weeks of treatment, I would do it again for the chance to get rid of this dragon.  I now have to wait 6 months to see if the treatment worked.

I crashed in 2007 without treatment, Kidney failure, lung collapsed and pnuemonia.  Six days in ICU six weeks in the hospital, they almost lost me.

I think you should really consider treatment before the disease gets any worse.

Good Luck to you - Lynne

Impossible to say.
A female of your age who does not drink and is not overweight may typically show stage 1 fibrosisis on biopsy.
The same individual at age say,55 may easily demonstrate more advanced disease.
We do know that disease progression tends to speed up,so you need to monitor your condition closely.
What genotype do you have?
