tenderness to touch...

Im on week 5 of treatment and for the last 2 weeks I have had soreness on my outer hip to the touch. Also tenderness of the abdomen to the touch near my injection sites. Is this normal? My outer hips feel as though they are bruised but there is no signs of bruising.

Hello Summer,

I inject in the lower abdomen varying between right and left side of navel from week to week.  I will suddenly begin itching horribly across my abdomen and it will feel deeply bruised when I scratch.  From what I've been told, that is a fairly normal side.

On the hips:  I will periodically begin to feel like I've been beaten with a ball bat all over my body.  Maybe you are experiencing a little of that in that area (or maybe it is from laying down more now as someone stated).  Remember that the authority on these things should be your doc.  We in this forum are simply other perople with hep-c, most of whom are presently treating.

Good luck and keep on posting.
Joey.

HI Summer, I have experience this thruoghout my tx. I am on week 39. My hips and joints in my legs were hurting so bad in fact I called and ask my cordinator about it just last week. And she said it was a side effect from the tx. Had a nieghber tell me I needed to exercise! If they only new how we feel. Anyway I did wonder at times if it was too much resting, but I have found that I can be active and have these symtoms as well as just laying around. The pain comes and goes. Sometimes I feel no pain in my hips at all then other times It is really bad. I was told to rotate tylenol and ibuprophine. Not sure what your dr has told you to take for the pain. Hang in there you are just at the beginning of tx, it does start to get better.

Did not have that particular side, but did sometimes have pain in hip joint, knees, ankles, toes, wrists, hands.  Never all at the same time, and the pains would come and go, nothing horrible, just odd.

Are you familiar with Arnica cream?  It's a homeopathic ointment or cream which helps with muscle soreness, if that's the issue.  Maybe also try an Epsom Salts bath if it's muscular, and if you can tolerate warm water (for some people that makes the itch worse, but baths made me feel better during tx).

Do you think it's the skin, the muscle, or the joint?  Can you tell?

Never heard of sore hips.  But a little pain, redness and swelling seem to be common sx. of injection.

When you lay in bed do you lay on your hips?  Have you been in bed more than usual?  (also normal),  Maybe its just that!

If it gets worse for sure ask Doc. about it.

I'm just about to start week 45, no sx. have lasted very long.

Hang in there - Lynne
