Waht to you guys think?

Hi,
I'm new here. Have hep C sobce2004, no idea about genotype, had a liver biopsy last year and the liver looked good.I have 2 questions I've been thinking about for quite a while.
1. Do you guys think it's OK to work as a pre-school teacher regardless of having Hep C?
2. I had a baby boy 20 months ago via C-section, can't be tested yet, until he is 2 years old.I accidentely used his saline nose spray and hope I didn't jeapordized his health.
Thanks so much.

Pre-school thing is fine.  I probably wouldn't SAY anything to them about it though, you know how freaky people get.  Especially since its a job with kids, they'll be doubly freaky.  You'd probably keep the job for about an hour.  It's your private medical business, and with hippa (sp?), I don't see how they can make you say.  I doubt you are going to be arrested for not revealing your medical business.  It would be discrimation to make you state it anyway because it shouldn't be a factor in hiring.

About the nose spray.  I definitely would NOT keep using it for your son once you've accidently used it.  There is information that some people have spread hep c by snorting cocaine together and this, to me, would be kind of a similar premise.  It was probably fine, I just would throw that nasal spray away and get another one though.

Also, although transmission during pregnancy does occur (and I don't have the stats), much more often it doesn't.  Congratulations on your baby, and I wish you good health.

Thanks so much for your input. One last question, even though my current boss knows that I have Hep C, once I will have the new job, should I inform the board that I do have the Virus, I just read that it is state law in New Jersey, hope that's a fluke.
Just want to do the right thing.
Thanks again.

Sounds like you are a concerned parent and teacher. Answer to question 1) Yes I think it is fine, just use good comman sense. 2) As far as the nose spray its ok, now the c-section you'll probably best of asking your md and waiting till 24 months.
