Low-fat diet, exercise, no drinking alcohol, stay away from fried foods. If he has never gone through treatment he needs to give it a try.  It is rough but it does cure SOME people.  He needs to find out what geno type the Hep C is have a liver biopsy.  Be sure he is with a GOOD doctor.  No smoking either. It's time to become an advocate and make sure you get the answers and help that you need.  Google Hep C and you will get a lot of connections.  Stay positive..it's not a death sentence.

Smarter people are coming ... for now, yes it is fully curable.
A must do is * Quit alcohol now! * Hep C, attacks the liver and alcohol is gasoline on that fire.

You didn't make clear what stage he's at. 3a is type of Hep C, stage would refer to the condition of his liver. Eventually you would need a liver biopsy to determine this. Much depends on the condition of his liver.
