Not doing so well. The pain I have is excruciating from the fibromyalgia. The months that I am not having a flare up, I feel pretty good. More energy and getting things done. Working on another ins. claim on a rental where a pot grower did $70K of damage- nightmare, but better than having pain. How are you? I still would love to get together at the duck pond someday. I have a new Dr. at USF medical center that know Todd and everyone there. He was at the Boston conference, knows his stuff. At least my ins. will pay for him. Todd will still talk to me by email too. Let me know when you will be down here! You are off tx now?
Guess what I had for dinner?...stuffed vegetarian grape leaves drizzled with balsamic vinegar! yum... Gotta love em!
It IS a great diet...how can you go wrong?...tasty, and GOOD for us!
Thanks for the reminder!
My husband and I joke that once we run out of firewood,we will fly to Bangkok
. I am hooked on that city, love spicy food and need to see my dentist, there.
How are YOU doing?
What is a med diet? I love Mediterrean food, but what about it is so good for us? I always got the freshest daily special and it was so good. The veggies and fish, yum. But there must be something similar here we eat that can compare with it. Is it a special diet plan?
Hey girl!!! I would love to meet in Bangkok, although the spices in the food is so hot I could hardly eat the food there. How have you been? Great to see you all here. Things have been pretty tough for me and haven't been online for awhile. Nice to know all my buds are still here!
Pigeon - Don't you be dissin' my Baja Fresh. That grilled mahi taco is my treat of treats...... I pile on a double portion of everything at the salsa bar.....
I had one of those retread style pizzas at a sidewalk cafe in Paris.... t'was kinda funky, that one...but we have a local Pizza Antiqua (???) they have pretty good flat and crispies...
Garlic and olive oil! The fountain of youth.
bugs have plenty of protein, and are a lower life form then other forms of meat, when you think about it...it really makes more sense, but then we don't have a mind-set for eating bugs here, at least some of us dont, lol....
How about we meet in Bangkok for an all-you-can-eat Thai feast?
We can pass on the bug appetizers.
at the risk of sounding like that "bum out" bring down broad on Saturday Night Live...lol...it might be one of the reasons why we in the US have some of the highest cancer rates, and heart disease of any developed country...the Japanese live long lives for the most part, till they move here and start eating our diets...One of HR's fields of expertise is gerontology...(just one of them) and we've had long talks about the American diet. But there are a lot of people who are more moderate in their eating habits as well. And we haven't even attacked sugar yet, lol...
Yes, we Americans do tend to alter foods to our weird tastes. The Olive Garden is about as Italian as Kraft's mac and cheese. I have a friend who thinks that merely by purchasing her food at Whole Foods, she's eating a healthy diet. After all, they sell "health" food.
Another way a lot of us fool ourselves is with Chinese food. In China, I'm told, they use meat as a garnish whereas in Chinese restaurants here in the USA, meat is the principal part of the dish. I was just looking up the nutritional information for P.F. Chang's. Most of their entrees average 900 calories or more and are meant for 4 people. Then there's Baja Fresh - well, hey, it's "fresh." Their veggie burrito is about 950 calories and loaded with fat.
I like Italian food the best, but it's difficult to eat like a real Italian. Have you ever had their pizza? It's like a large cracker topped with dainty amounts of tomato and cheese and maybe a few slivers of another ingredient. Not those big gloppy pies we Yankees devour. But they're not easy to find here.
I read recently that the American version of the Mediterranean diet was doing people in. The traditinal diet featured whole grains and we had converted it to processed flour for pasta, etc. I think the Olive Garden was cited...Something like that, I skimmed the article.....
Yup, Turkey was amazing, ancient ruins everywhere. We were there for almost 3 months.
Great halavah and baklavah.
The Med. area had solar hot water heaters on all the houses, apt. buildings, hotels, etc.
Other than great tomatoes, and bread, meals were heavy on meat and dairy.
Funny how we all think of our fabulous salads then go to another country and groan!
I always think of the Med diet as being Italian. Fresh produce, moderate amounts of meat, the best quality ingredients, cooked simply but perfectly. Greek food makes me think of spanakopita and gyros, neither one of which sound that healthy to me, but a nice salad and fish, yes. Middle Eastern food can be very healthy - don't know about felafel though. They're fried, but they're made of garbanzo beans, so I guess the two might balance each other out.
I agree...I happen to love this diet though, tomatoes, veggies.. a leeeetle pasta, olives, fish, some saffron rice...nuts, fruit for dessert....etc etc I'm hungry now...you went to Turkey?, cool...
What part of the Med ? I loved Turkey but the basic diet seemed like a recipe for cardiac arrest.
How about the old adage, all things in moderation?
