Am I at risk from a Fishbone Cut?

This is extracted from a thread with one of our newer members, here: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/617263
Anyway, thought it deserved its own thread.

The other day I was eating fish at home and cut myself on a fish bone. So guess what was the first thing that popped into my mind. LOL. That's right, could I have infected myself with Hepatitis C!

Now, of course that is ridiculous, but that's what went on in my mind for about thirty seconds until I just sort of smiled at myself and moved on.

Of course, ANYTHING is possible in this world, and one is in some sort of danger as soon as we get out of bed in the morning. But we do get out of bed.

I mention all this because of the the disconnect that sometimes occurs between our mind and our emotions and fears.

It also helps me understand a little better those new (or sometimes not so new) here who worry about things that don't seem to warrant worry. Or those crazy infection scenarios that pop up from time to time.

Well, at least for me, logic doesn't always rule when something involves yourself.

So, anyway, to cut to the chase -- am I at any risk :)

You should monitor yourself for the next six weeks closely. You do not need any blood tests for that, but be sure to especially check behind you ears and jawline for formation of thin hair. This could be the first signs of gills formation. Also check your skin for rough patches and skin formations between your toes and fingers.

One of the progressed stages would be the cessation of eyelids.

There is unfortunately no vaccine for this, but eating large amounts of bananas might be helpful.

Better to turn into a monkey than a fish...

Marcia, after reading your post, my concerns are growing. You mention, "bananas", but what about juicing? I know we made fun of Matt in the past, but maybe he's actually on to something? I usually take showers but last night had this uncontrollable urge to take a bath and found myself involuntarily dunking my head under the water several times. Do you think I'm turning into a fish? While alarming, actually preferable to having to treat again.

Was the fish an IV drug user (trout-junkies are  epidemic in big cities) ,or recipient of a transfusion before screening practices were in place? Cooked fish or sushi? Was the name "Lester" tattooed across the back of his neck? For the love of GOD, Man- get thee to a physician without delay!  But to answer your question, I'll need more information: are you at any risk for what?
Good stuff, Jim...Good stuff.

I'm sorry I cannot be of further assistance, as I am not a phishician. You should go to the nearest teaching hospital with certified phishologists... very important you see one of those and not just an aqualogist, as they are often not experienced in these matters.

Due to what happened to you in the bath, I would not spare a moment. Go now!!!!

I have read that if you put bleach in the bath tub, those urges will pass.

It is my understanding the juicing only works if your spouse was exposed to the same fish bone and you both have zits.

Marcia:  phishician??  priceless!!!!

ROFL!!!!

Did he mention what geno he was?  Because if he has the flounder geno, he shouldn't lay on his side or else his eyes will shift.

Thank you all for your help and guidance. What is done is done, but in the future I plan on instituting safer fish practices into my dining routine. I will use protection and try not to stray from fish to fish. And just to be on the safe side, I sent a sample of salmon blood from a recently defrosted salmon to Quest Labs for a Heptimax. As you know, this is one of the more sensitive tests available so it should definitely pick up anything fishy.

I think you need to practice safe fish.  You need to wrap every bite in a cheese blintz and swallow without chewing it.

And be sure to sterilize the nail clippers with 500% bleach.

Everytime I go into my bathroom, I am going to check my toothbrush to make sure those creepy friends of mine aren't using it by mistake.

This is halarious. I guess when you have lack of knowkedge your fears can do odd things. Dam I thought I caught hep c from a tattoo but it must of been that fish when I pulled the fly out of his mouth I pricked my finger before releasing him. Then again maybe I gave it to the fish?? Sorry jmjm530. I just catch and release. I can't help where the fish swims to next. Got to keep the vegans happy. lol

OMG.... I just remembered that I stepped on a fish bone in 1983, in the streets of Jakarta...It went right through my sandals into my foot and hurt like krap...

I went to the doctor and got a tetanus shot.... but never thought about the other consequences.

Could it be that I've had it since then???

Not to correct your spelling, but isn't that hurt like karp, not krap?
