hi, these issues are really variable, do you have hepatitis c? I'm a little foggy so I might of missed it...many things can raise alt's, even very hard unaccustomed exercising...new medications, a couple of hard partying nights or consistent high alcohol or drug intake, another disease just taking hold....these are just things I've been told and read about, I'm for sure no expert...if you do have hepatitis, these certainly aren't the highest readings I've heard of, but they are certainly elevated....and those "normal" readings youre quoting, might be a little outdated, at least according to my own hepatologist....
There might be a slight difference in men to women as well - as far as "normal", but a person with really normal reads on alts should be in the low 20's - teens....I had my last few alt's at 34 and my ast's like 26 or something, and I still consider it a little elevated, according to my hepatologist...but not by much...Drs can maybe disagree on this issue...also they can spike unexpectedly, so a reading of over months and consistency can be a key into your real readings as well...I'm certainly no doc, and neither are the vast majority here, if I were you, I'd go to a very good liver man, gastro, hepatologist, and perhaps other specialists....and take all required tests and confer with the docs to get at the real root of your problems....be well...probably others will have their own takes...
TO FORSEEGOOD AND ALL: I have had the Hep A vaccine and Hep B series. I do not believe I have Hep C, but i will find out tomorrow morning at my next appointment. I am not an alcoholic. I drink...ever so slightly on special ocassions and limit my intake to 2-3 drinks...usually beer. I have had very few sexual partners and have never used drugs of any kind. I am concerned that my other autoimmune disease (thyroid) has opened the door to other autoimmune disorders. The normal values I listed previously are the ones that the lab provided with the results. I know that normals can vary from facility to facility but usually only by a small amount. What were some of your levels when you were diagnosed? Thanks again.
Hi, we're mostly dealing with hepatitis here, guess youre doing the right thing, at least ruling things out and seeing various specialists, etc...I hope you get to the bottom of it...there are people here with inflammation issues due to hepatitis, and I see values all over the map, from mid-range 45 or whatever, to 300 or more, and all things in between, these are just indicators, like I said, hope you get to what's really raising them in your case...
thanks for you help and support.
usually your ast will be a few points lower than your alt are mostly always higher, right before i treated mine were alt 75 ast 55 at my 31/2 month post my alt was 20 ast18, yeah i would get some answers from ol doc, and why not go ahead and get tested for hepc, just to rule it out.....
