How did you you got HCV 20 or 10 years ago.

Hello friends, my question to all is how do you find out how long you have been infected with HCV.
My doctor can't tell me, she just said that the liver has minimal damage and that maybe from a tattoo
some 21 years ago. I guess at this point it does not matter cuz I got it and need to treat it.
