Not sure if you are now treating, or if you previously cleared the virus? I know that hepatitis c patients will often have inconsistent thyroid test that is the result of the disease and not necessarily indicative of thyroid disease.
There have been some data that indicate treatment can reverse fibrosism and thus stage, but I think it is still not definite yet.
Itching is a very common side effect for Ribavirin. I have been scratching for over a year now! Itching can also be a symptom of liver disease, so definitely get checked with the doctor.
Good luck to you
Sounds like you have been thru it. When you say you reached SVR, do you realy mean you ere undetectible at the EOT (end of treatment) and relapsed within the 6 month time? I think the second drug you were on was Infergen, and it is a killer from what others have said.(I never tried it)
You are right that the liver can regenerate - it is the only organ that can - butI am amazed that your liver would go from stage 3 to 1 with treatment. I treated 56 weeks and my liver -- per biopsy -- is almost exactly the same-- stage 1, grade 1-1/2. The virus will continue to damage the liver as long as you have not cleared it. The damage progression is not linear - meaning that it doesn't go down hill at a predictble steady pace, but can take a nose diive at any time, especially as you age and the body develops other problems.
The feeling you are talking about I know quite well from the Ribavirin and maybe 2 months after taking it, but am not familiar with it now (Not treating now). It was a creepy crawly under-the-skin itch that scratching really didn't help. It was as if my blood vessels were itching. Since you are not treating now, I would get that checked out.
Good luck to you -- there may be some new treatment drugs for us by 2009 or 2010.
frijole
I have no idea since I have not started treating. (I have a million excuses) What I'm seeing is this is so individual and the liver is an incredible organ, so keep getting checked, take care of yourself and be in the moment. (hopefully I can get there myself)
