Yeah but there is a big difference between abbreviations of medical terms and the texting versions (sometimes to make you really crazy they even do it in all caps) of words.
I think it makes adults look pretty pitiful but kids I can understand - a few times we've just asked that they actually type real words and I don't remember there being a problem (or them coming back actually!)
... or In My Honest Opinion for those who are humble deficient.
Ahhh...can do man said what I wanted to....wtf=where's the fridge.
Much as I hate the texting lingo...we have lots of our own abbreviations here.. RNA PCR, UND, tx, sx, dx, bx, BTW, and let's not forget the best one...SVR!!!
Still...there's a time and place for everything. Even paragraphs-yup, gotta bring up my pet peave again (aka PP. lol!!)
BTW, IMHO=in my humble opinion
By the way, I totally agree with the folks on this thread. Short cutting the English language not only annoys me but it makes us all lazy - very lazy. I do not think young people can write sentences and paragraphs any more.

I haven't been on much but it is sure nice to see your name. How are you doing PT (oops - guess I should have spelled that out on this thread) - post transplant? Do you get your anti rejection meds here in the states or do you have to go back to (where - Thailand?). I hope you are well. I like your avatar - is that your orphaned hawk?

I imagine that most of the texters are younger too. Old fogies like me never had cordless phones, much less cell phones and texting when we were in our teens and twenties. When you learn stuff while you are younger, it tends to stick better.
And by the way, what does IMHO mean?
Thanks for bringing up this particular annoyance.
Texting is not better than misspelling. It's certainly harder for many of us to decipher.
My guess is people do it out of habit.
Especially reporting anything you say CanCan you've always been one of the grooviest nicest dudes on the forum..........people have enough energy to hit report report report but can't take the time to type properly. Yeah that makes sense when you think about it the more words you post the more you enjoy hitting report. The less words the less reports. ;)
ty, LOL I bet my post gets deleted also ,along with another gosh
darn star, and BTW , I'll probably get a red check mark instead of green as well :)
TTYL :)
Too funny!!! I actually remember that happening.
BFF = best friend forever
I learned this the hard way. On someone's thread I asked what this meant, and I was censored! My post was deleted! I couldn't believe it. Someone reported me.
So I'm smiling now cause yours hasn't been deleted.

I agree with MJ regarding spelling. In addition I use MSWord a lot with spell check so frequently I am really having a hard time spelling these days.
I agree. It drives me nuts. Not the BTW or IMHO stuff, but the b4 and u 2 stuff.
I'll go a step further and ask what ever happened to the use of paragraphs??? Some of those long posts with no breaks whatsoever.... I can't read them.
I can't lie...I do abuse the "lol" thing, though.
Thanks for the laugh!!!!! FOTFLMAO............
Idk y u want 2 know all dis anyway :o)?
goof....................you caught me.............hahahhah
"You can mispell and get away with it. "
Not always.
I don't even mean misspelled words or proper grammar but the B4 and 2day types of things. I am in no way a perfect speller but those BFF & K things drive me nuts.
BTW, see I do it also to an extent, I type with 2 fingers myself, always have even in typing class.
"your finger has to hit less keys"
Excuse me, but I use both my middle fingers to type. And that should read " *fewer* keys".
jk
Oops, I mean just kidding.
The trouble is, 'common usage' is going to win out over proper spelling, proper grammar, proper definition every time. A good example on this forum is that 'acute hepatitis' is now commonly used to refer to the period of time immediately following infection, even if asymptomatic. At one time it referred to having yellow eyes and other overt symptoms.
There used to actually be long, heated threads here over whether "myriad symptoms" was more correct than "a myriad of symptoms".
I sometimes make a mess when i post, some words are not spelled correctly, actually its just mis-typed,i sometimes dont bother rechecking before i hit the post button.Where is that abbreviating words list?
I think texting is destroying the actual intelligence of spelling. You can mispell and get away with it.
They had a list of the abbreviating words to the right on this page,i dont see it anymore.
to do it here at all and, what does BFF mean? :( I got the K early on.
