Coffee and Water on tx

I have been reading for some time about the importance of drinking ALOT of water while on tx.  Well... I drink ALOT of coffee.  NOT alot of water.  I'm not sure how well I can make the transition.  I've never been much of a water drinker and if anything, it's soda water.  Does that count?  (Maybe a stupid question but I'm asking.  Maybe those bubbles have adverse effects?)

Can I still have my 4-6 cups of coffee in the morning...and drink water all throughout the day.. and my 4-6 cups of coffee in the evening?  Well...coffee midday too.  3-4 cups.

Aside from the lecture on caffeine overdosing.....anyone else with a coffee habit that has had to adjust to water....have any suggestions or tips?

Thanks.

Trish

purified/distilled water,......

That is the difference, just 'bottled' water isn't always purified-to my understanding.
It did occur to me that your in Canada, may be okay there???

Can't help it when your out, as per coffee , etc. but I use it at home.

Well, the reason I asked why is that I caught an investigative program comparing tap water here in Ontario/Canada? to bottled water and they found that the tap water was actually superior.  And that bottled water is little more than tap water bottled alot of the time.  They did a comparison on all the brands too.  I forget if one brand came out better than another but I think so....and if one of them stood out as superior, it doesn't register with me.    There is a bottled water plant near where I live...and from what I understand, they simply bottle tap water.  So....why are we paying for bottled water?  And it's not even environmentally positive, with all those bottles.  So....since then, I stay away from bottled water as much as possible unless it's the most convenient thing at the moment and just refill my own water bottle.

I think the study also included just how safe tap water is .. and it's not as bad as people think, but perhaps that depends a great deal on where you live.

Now.. purified/distilled water, I don't know enough about the composition of that and that's what you're suggesting...so I'll look into that and decide....I just got a water jug with a spigot on it for my desk at work for when I start tx to help me drink less coffee...lol...and I might as well fill it with what is most beneficial.

Thanks for bringing that up....I'll look into it.

And I rarely drank tap water before I knew I had Hep!

Because it is full of cr*p :)

As the liver is 'handicapped' already, it doesn't 'filter' things as well as a healthy liver.
I have read with Hep to drink purified (not just 'bottled') and NP said purified/distilled.

In NC we lived on a mtn. with our water from it's own spring/filter system (not sure the deatils which) but it was the BEST water! About the only water I'd want to drink from tap, especially 'city' water!!

Sounds logical ???

I drank several cups of coffee daily, tons of tap water, ate high fiber cereal every morning with my riba. No problems and other than the coffee, never was told or heard about the others. I have 2 more days of riba and I'm done with treatment.

Good luck to all of you. DEBRA

I'm spending a fortune on purified water, @ $125.oo mth!! Getting the filter again.

Be sure it is purified/distilled, not tap water! With Hep especially you shouldn't drink tap water.

I think I'll try to break the cereal habit. I like it and it is quick and easy to get before I head out  the door. The toast and peanut butter sounds good. Have to go that route for a while.

Thanks,

LL, I like the idea of cranberry juice anyway...and apparently it's one of those high flavonoid things so suits me just fine.  I've been stocking up on teas, and will try to cut back on the coffee as much as I can...I like the idea of half regular, half decaf.

Dogsledder....I'm not a soda drinker ... but I do very much like soda water, carbonated water.  Will that not work?

I'll be shopping for a water dispenser for work this weekend I think.  I don't want to be buying bottled water....but I have a number of water bottles around the house so I'll put them into service.

Lots of good tips here.

If you get dry mouth too, coffee and soda will not hydrate your body. I thought the transition would be hard, but kept a refillable water bottle with me all the time. Had to p** about every hour. Nights were the pits..up 3 or 4 times but at least I didn't wet the bed!!
Last tx was 2 weeks ago (on for 48 wks). Feeling better but still drinking a lot of water as my skin is still v. dry.

I'm in the NO grapefruit juice vote, as I have a tree FULL in my backyard :(

I could drink coffee in 98 degree's with morning sickness, lol! LOVE my coffee! I do, however, buy organic (was told coffee is very 'sprayed' ??) and also mix 1lb of reg, with 1lb. decaf to lesson the caffeine. I make sure I drink a lot of H20 with it also.

I heard the 'not much fiber' on tx thing too, don't ask me where....please!!!

I've heard from a couple sources including a trusted hepatologist that fiber in the form a psyllium husks should be avoided right around the time of the riba injestion. I guess the riba could get sucked in and bound to the fibers?

So with that - I would also avoid the habit of taking riba with a high fiber cereal on an everyday basis.

There are some great organic nutrition bars that are almost greasy with omega-3 oils. They have a vegan, an omega-3, and a chocolate. Trader Joes carries them, but I forget the name.

Can you explain to me why not the fiber?  I don't doubt you, I simply want to understand the reasoning.  Peanut butter and toast works...love that combo.  Easy and fast for me to make before work too.  Maybe throw some banana slices on it...even better.

If it were me, I'd avoid the riba with the fiber on an everyday basis. I'd have the riba with an avacado, or toast and peanut butter, then maybe have my cereal later. Mix it up a little. Could be what you're doing is fine - but doing it the same way every day and with the fiber going in with the riba - I'm not sure I'd go that route.

This must be water week! I've been on my 'soap box' re: Dry Mouth and related tooth decay. So, drink that H 2 0 , The best elixer for us HCV-ers. Just be sure to stop before you drown yourself. Don't laugh, it's happened. I'm not crazy about tap water, so sometimes I'll throw in a few drops of vanilla extract.  I also pour this mixture into my ice trays  Ant B

Hey Albany...good to see you up and around.  Thanks for the input.  The most common theme by far is to have water around EVERYWHERE...lol :)  I'm planning to cut back on the caffeine as much as I can tolerate.

How much longer for you on tx?

prior to starting TX i had an atrocious pop / coffee habit.  for the first few weeks i dropped pop completely as the tatste had changed - but fought hard to keep my timmies..lol!  I added a lot of extra water- although sometimes felt like if i drank one more bottle of water i woudl be sick.  coffee did bug my stomaach- esp if i had not eaten enough. so i think the main kley is balance.  water bottles everywhere.  i keep one of my kids old lunch bags so when i go out i take 4 to 6 bottles out of the fridge and keep handy in the car, or else will end up in the timmies drive thru.
After 12 weeks or so (around when i had food poisoning) i foudn i craved more salt / sugar- and stared drinking more pop eating more salt- but although i can now tolerate it re, i feel like **** if i drink too much.
oh, and did someone say somehting about riba / coffee and jitters ...be even more careful if you liek those nergy drinks- i can fly for hours after drinking a rock star now- clean the whle house and pay for it later, loL!

Walrus, glad you asked that question....been wanting to...that's one of my common breakfasts, a good sized bowl of Red River multi-grain cereal with 1% milk.   Nice to hear that you can tolerate them on treatment...I wondered how that would go.

So Jim..ditto from me.  If I switch that to homo milk or even "half and half" cream...will that be sufficient?   Would be nice to keep eating my grains for breakfast if possible.

In general I started stocking up on teas.  Green tea is not flavourful enough for me but I have Chai tea which is better suited to my palate and have Rooiboos..if the coffee from Africa is good, perhaps the tea will be.  I'm thinking my caffeine intake could use a reduction.  I had already decided to stock up on soups to have on hand for a quick meal.  I love pea soup with ham but don't indulge for obvious reasons...now there's a high fat meal!  So perhaps I'll get to indulge a bit more.

Very useful information from all ongoing, thanks.

Thanks! You answered several questions that had been on my mind...importance of spacing of riba doses and the importance of fat with the doses. I take  the Riba with breakfast, which is usually a whole grain cereal with 1% or 2% milk. I hope that the milk provides adequate fat. Maybe I should go for the full-fat milk?

Wow, you could be an offensive line man for the Packers on that breakfast every day!

Thank you...I'm getting the idea.  I really wasn't sure what people meant, to take riba with fat.  Wasn't sure if I should take it with a dollop of butter or just what, exactly.  You explain it well and even I understand it. Appreciated.
