I have been hypothyroid for 4 years - since before I found out I have HCV - My Synthroid needed an adjustment only once so far, since I am on treatment - And yes, I got that lumpy feeling in my neck - side of my throat - It was a swollen lymph node, quite common I understand -  from Interferon...It's odd that all this should happen now, after 70 weeks of this toxic stuff...Hope you feel better soon...

Hugs Beth

I know I am worried...I know the last time I moved was in begining of tx and I ended up in the Hospital with pneumonia and at that time I was extremely hypo tsh 76?  I do believe I may have an ear infection or sinus infection but I have been on antibiotics several times in the past 6 months or so and I am afraid that I will develope resistance ...last thing I need right now...I am just worried because this is happening at the end of tx and hope its not something else...thanks

You went from very hypo to very hyper which is really not normal from what I understand...it goes the other way most times.

You may end up having to have your thyroid removed if they can't get it under control with the meds I think. Being hyper is much more dangerous.

But it seems that the doctor needs to make an adjustment.  Have you seen the endo recently?

My synthroid was adjusted once and I think it's doing ok (I'll have the next TSH done when I get the PCR).  Does the Synthroid adjust the TSH OR does it adjust the T3s????  I think someone told me it wasn't the tsh that was changed with the med and it was the T4 (or 3 whichever one it is they test on us I forget).

You're almost done. Chances are the thyroid is not going to go back to normal but everything else should.   Don't worry about the platelets and stuff now - you're at the end by the time you got to a point it'd be really bad...they'll be back to fine cause you'll be off the ifn/riba poisons :)

You are ALMOST THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that the blood work numbers are not that bad, I got the exact numbers on the phone today and its just a few points, I am not seeing and endo and  have just been seeing my internist for the thyroid. Right now I have a crappy med discount plan but not health insurance so I pay out of pocket and it gets really expensive. Do you know anything about having it removed??? I have had my meds adjusted about 4 or 5 times already....and its taking its toll more than tx...
If anyone can give me some input about thyroid issues I would really appreciate it. thanks and hanging in there...I WILL FINISH THIS TX !!!  hugs :) shelly

don't have much to offer except encouragement, and the hope that you continue to feel better as the meds slowly leave your system...good on you, sending you healing vibes!

I know a little bit about thyroid issues, having lived with it myself - but it is only my experience...I think before they remove it they do extensive testing to see if it will be a possible cause for cancerous tumors - or if it is hyper (like NYgirl said, that can be dangerous) - Removing it is only an option after they played around with dose adjustments - When I was first diagnosed it took several dose adjustments before they got it right, and like I said before, only one adjustment since tx began...But I am hypothyroid, not hyper - In my case the adjustment they made was an increase in the dose because I was going lower - not higher - I had heard that most people being effected by Interferon induced thyroid issues usually go hyper - Maybe since mine was not Interfeon induced - I stayed low?  Dunno, just a guess on my part...I asked the Clinic if it would go away after tx ends, and they said no probably not - Becasue it was a pre existing condition - Was yours brought on my Interferon, is so maybe it will go back to normal?

I wouldn't sweat it too bad for now - you only have 2 more shots and then it can be dealt with...You deserve a huge prize for 72 weeks on this frigging train - I have total respect for anyone that can that!

The thyroid issue came about due to tx,around week 25-30? can't recall (go figure) it went really hypo then meds then adjustments then went really hyper...as long as I can make it till the end dr stated probably will be an ongoing issue afterwards..just makes you feel crappy until I guess they get the dose right. I heard them say that synthroid is better to take vs. generic levothyroxin (levothyroxine)..true? I know i can get the synthroid if need be. Right now I am on 25 mcg for 4 weeks until next blood draw and pcr..thanks for the info. appreciate it greatly..shelly

Shell

Mine was exactly like yours except backwards. Happened at about the same time, interferon induced now it's just going to be wrecked for the rest of my life, like "most" autoimmune cases it goes drastically hyper than hypo fast.  Unfortunately yours went backwards.

My cousin (not a hepper) just had her thyroid removed. First they gave her mega amounts of radiation to kill it (she couldn't even touch her baby for three days) and then they just operated and removed it.

Thyroid storm is what I think they worry about and why they remove it.

I wish you could get to an Endo.  An internest really doesn't know jack about thyroids you know? Not that I do either.

I'm actually surprised that the internest hasn't at least called in an endo for advice (you know to ask him not to treat you if your insurance won't cover).  My hep doc was EXCELLENT that way - if he wasn't sure of something (and face it since none of his patients had even HEARD of doing the 72 weeks let alone do it) he would just get right on the phone and double check and get opinions.

Do you know if your internest has done anything like that?  It might help get you a better course of action?

Personnally, I don't think there's much difference between the synthroid and the levothyroxin (levothyroxine).  I take the levothyroxin (levothyroxine) and like it better than synthroid but that might be because the original synthroid dosage wasn't effective.

The most important thing is that WHICHEVER one you take STAY with it.  Don't switch back and forth during tx.  As I understand it you can make yourself really sick by taking one for a few months and then switching to the other brand.

well today was the pits...didn't sleep last nite up coughing and feverish...called dr this am and go figure, I have pneumonia again...everytime I move it seems I get run down and push to hard !!!
so I start a round of antibiotics again...high dose short 7 days...augmentin 875mg ...so hopefully feel better in a few days...then my specialist called and he has to check his chart but he thinks I'm one shot short of 72?? I can't recall but according to my records I am okay...he's to double check and call back...ahhh whats another extra right??? other than that hubby is coming home tonight and he will take care of me...going to rest but not too much as the fluid lays in the lungs...ugh.. I hope all are doing better been saying lots of prayers as of late for all of us...hugs to all :) shelly

You have really had just about everything possible happen to you. You seem to have only one kind of luck! You are incredibly brave and strong, and that's what's carried you this far. Only 1 more week after the next shot, dr has to be wrong, who would keep better track than the one txing? (Maybe the one with the mind left to count??) :)
Hang in there, almost thru. You're right, stay upright for the lungs to stay as clear as possible.
Hugs,

well only one left to go   at least as far as I know...feeling better already, as for luck I have none but know there is a reason that things are thrown my way...there has to be;) lol..I do believe I have a black cloud that looms over me !!! I know that he will not give what one cannot handle..even though it seems that way sometimes...My long time friend visited yesterday and it made me realize that even if I have rough times so does everyone else. She is on the verge of suicide and is going to be committed , her hubby is brain injury too but has developed some type of ongoing infection that is eating away his brain? anyway he has become extremely violent and is losing his memory along with other cognitive functions...she has 2 younger kids at home and has completely given up...So I am worried about her more than myself right now..she asked me for help so I tried to guide her and told her I will be there for her no matter what happens, including taking care of her kids...she made me promise...so even if I have it bad, so do others.....no use feeling sorry for myself...I hope all are doing well and like I stated before and I really mean it...I pray for us all, everyday, svr...hugs :)shelly

To: shel - babe...
Oh wow!

You're like me - no matter how bad my little black cloud is - I realize there is someone far, far worse off than me.

I hope your month gets better and that your friend gets the help she needs. She could be just getting too stressed - I hope that she gets some much needed relief from all of the pressures that she is going through. WoW!

And it's awesome that you are there for her.

People in this world need people like you.

I just popped in here - I don't know anything about the thyroid - I'm on .10 of synthroid - but hardly ever take it for hypothyroid. So I'm no good on helping --- But I wanted to give you a hug - and hopefully give you a little smile.

Remember a ray of sunshine will bring down that black cloud.... And sometimes it only takes a bright smile to help that ray of sunshine along the way.

HUGS!

Meki
