hair loss

I am in week 12 of tx, I have been shedding a large amount of hair in the shower since the beginning of treatment but not enough that I was overly concerned.  However, I just went to get in bed an d noticed on my pillow a large amount of hair on my pillow.  This concerns me as it has never happened before.  I know that hair loss is common during tx but I was hoping that because it had not been falling out alot that I might be ok as I have very thick hair.  Now Im not so sure about that, is it common to loss more hair half way through tx?  This is crazy Im a hair stylist and use great products I thought for sure I could avoid lossing my hair.  Looks like I may have thought wrong this time.

I am in 14th week of tx. I started losing hair a few weeks ago. I use Nioxin, and other very good products on my hair as well. Unfortuntaely to date I would say I lost 25% of my hair all in the front and on top. I have fine hair but alot of it.(Tweetie Bird)
You can start to see my scalp now. Im uncomfortable with it but knew this was going to happen.
Hope you start to feel somewhat better. Week 4- to 12 were the worst for me. Week 7 was a doozy!

This is how it went for me over the whole tx. Be sure you don't let that stuff down the drain, or you will be calling roto rooter!  I had little piles of hair on my ledge of my shower  everytime. At least it doesn't all come out!

u are so right but the old saying is bald is beautiful..LOL..I would freak out if i lost my hair.. I couldnt imagine..Hey can we color our highlight are hair on TX?

In week 23 and have been really loosing hair past 4 weeks :(
Thought I'd get thru with little! I'd say my hair is 40% thinner now. I bought the nioxin, but it seems to dry my hair more?? Harder to comb out ?(long).
I'm wondering, as last shot next week (WHOO HOO!) how long it keeps falling out????
Anyone know that? I don't want to cut it, style it until it's 'done'!

Personally, I don't think there's much we can do to stop it, products or otherwise. Doing the biotin also, still coming out!

I did hightlight my hair once or twice on tx. You have to be sure that the bleach doesn't touch the roots. I usually felt so lousy, I couldn't make appts for anything! So the nails never got done, hair either. It got pretty bad, so I told the hairdresser about being on chemo. That is important! Bleach near the scalp is what is bad. I don't think other colors would be so bad. Hey, my hair was so bushy and wired. It stood straight up!  Who cared what I looked like?  I sure didn't!  

My hair stopped coming out soon after tx. Now that it is growing back in, I have these 2 inch long bangs in the front I never had before. Quite a new feature!

I am actually a Nioxin Educator...The actual system ( cleanser, scalp therapy, and scalp treatment) is for your scalp skin not the actual hair fiber.  Nioxin does hair conditioners for the hair fiber: Deep repair (which I use), hydrating hair mask.  They really help the hair fiber and it will be so much easier for you to comb out! I have also been taking the nioxin recharging complex.  As for coloring you hair...I have been coloring my hair through tx and I even permed it recently in hopes to make it look fuller.  I have had no problem coloring my hair during tx.  Although, I do use all of the nioxin products.  I was told today that I should also try taking 5000 milligrams of biotin a day to help assist the nioxin.

No that is not a deal on that product!  If you were to go to a salon the systems should be anywhere between $30 and $45 dollars.  I am not sure where that company got that product but I can tell you they didn't get it from Nioxin.  Nioxin is a salon ONLY product, so when you see it sold some where other than a salon its black market items which may not even have the correct product in it.

Im not sure where you are located but if you tell me maybe I can help you find a salon that sells it.

Mikki.... I got the 3 pk. system at Penny's hair salon and than saw Walmart salons sell it. @$39.00 but doesn't last long with long hair!

Gizmoe....all I can find is for fine hair, which is not mine!

Also, on the biotin.....a few mths. back it was posted that it wasn't easy on the liver, so I stopped taking it. As almost done, I started again a week ago.

sfbay....glad to hear it starts growing soon after, but when it's 28 inches long....may take awhile to catch up, aye?? May be getting a trim soon :)

And I ask again (had said on Charms post)......How come we loose the hair on our heads but still shaving the legs here?????

I read a study that said only 25% loose their hair on this! Don't think that covered just major thinning tho.

Nioxin has 8 systems, systems 1-4 are for fine hair and systems 5-8 are for medium to coarse hair.  I use system 8 because i have coarse hair that is colored treated and is noticably thinning ( I use to use system 7 which is the same as 8 except its for normal to thin looking)  Also it is important to use one of the conditioners for the hair itself, as the system is for the scalp skin not the hair fiber.  There are 3 conditioners, hydrating hair mask, repairative hair mask, and deep repair hair mask.
Good to know about the biotin and the liver I'll run that by my Dr.

Thanks for the alert - I just googled it and it was the first thing that popped up.
So the Walmart salon - is that in all walmarts or just certain ones?

My hair is thin if there is no humidity but thick and curly if there is. I suppose I should get it for thin - since it will be thinning right?

Does the 3 pack have all you need or do you have to get a conditioner as well?

It seems like most the walmarts on the west coast have the salons in them but if you are on the east coast I know they don't.  When you go to buy the product a stylist should be able to help you pick the right system.  Its hard for me to determine what system without seeing you hair in person.  Basically there are three questions to answer to figure out what system is right for you.  

1. Is you hair fine or med to coarse
2. Is your hair normal to thin looking or is it noticably thinning
3 Is your hair natural or chemically enhanced

systems 1 - 4 are for fine hair
systems 5-8 are for coarse hair
systems 1,3,5,7 for normal to thin looking
systems 2,4,6,8, for noticably thinning
systems1,2,5,6, for natural hair
systems 3,4,7,8, for chemically enhanced

Hopefully that does not confuse you but it should help figure what system to use.  As far as the kits they come with the cleanser, scalp therapy, and scalp treatment.  The conditioners for the hair are sold seperately.

You are a lifesaver!  I have not yet begun tx, but feel hopeful to have such good info on Nioxin before I need it!!!!
I have quite long, but very thin and straight hair.  I want to be prepared and this certainly helps!

Who said anything about shaving legs?  I think once before I went to Jamacia on tx, I had my legs waxed. I haven't since. Still haven't!  Now that the weather is getting nicer and my hair on the legs seems a bit thicker, I am thinking....time to shave!  LOL  Hey, who cares when you feel like hell?  I think I feel well enough now to think more about it!  lol  Armpits too!

Just not fair dammit! As I watch the head hair falling all over....I'm looking at the legs (etc :)... saying "why the H*LL are you STILL GROWING?" My arms are hairier !!!  What's with that??

  It will be (SADLY) funny if the new hair grows in curly while I have all the other straight hair still!
