Nervous about girlfriend with Hep. C

Nervous about girlfriend with Hep. C

Hello,
I'm a 22 year old male and have been dating a wonderful girl for 5 1/2 years. I know she has hep. c, but she was treated when she was very young and now the disease is "undetectable". I try looking up the disease online but facts tend to flip flop. Now that I'm older I am worried about it. We became sexually active a few years ago and use a condom. but how possible is it that I will catch it? Or if we decide to have children, how will they be effected? What precausions should we take to make sure it doesn't come back? I'm really nervous about all of this mainly because I just don't know alot about it. I don't know if it matters but her mother contracted the disease in a liver transplant and then passed it on to her through birth.
Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks team for your help, but I think you are missing the point. He said her HCV was "cleared" I am assuming that she was treated and cured. If that is indeed the case then there is nothing to worry about. The virus does not come back! Forget it! She is normal and healthy. If you are really worried, you can ask her to have another PCR test, if negative the put it out of your mind! Good luck! DTD

Been with my spouse for 15 years, I have the hepc he never got it and we didn't use a condom, it is probably harder for a male to give it to a female than her to you.  She may need a c section.  Talk to your doctor about it, but I think you are safe!

Been with my spouse for 24 years, he has never caught it up to this date. We even used the catholic birth control method, (where you count 10 days from the beginning of your menstral cycle, too) So that being said it is very hard to contract sexually. We don't use a condom, either. Now people with multiple partners or into rough sex may contract it, but that's a different story.

I believe you have it backwards.  Sexual tranmission is usually male to female, than

female to male.  Simple anatomy.  The 'receiving' partner is more at risk.
