Testing Recommendation after 1 1/2 year post Treatment

Hi Doc.... I have been Hep C (genotype 1b) free and off of treatment since March 14, 2007. At 6 months post treatment, my viral load test was undetectable. In a month, beginning of sept, i go for my year and a half post viral load test. I feel great and am very confident that i remain Hep C free. If my viral load test comes up undetectable still at 1 1/2 years post treatment, i have heard that you have so called been "cured". What are the recommendations for testing after this point. Should i still go get VL test every year just for peace of mind?

Thanks in advance for reply!

I would say that you are cured already! Congrats! Many docs stop checking viral load after a year or two. There are no firm recommendations. I like to see my "Cures" once a year to check up on them and some do have occaisonal worries and like to be certain by checking the PCR once yearly. However that is more a social occaision than anything else. I do however, like to make sure that they are taking care of all their routine health concerns since we both have a lot invested in their good health! DTD
