is it herpes

I was in a sexual relationship last year and in nov 2009 dev intense itching of vulva. Took the usual antifungal cream followed by fluconazole with no response. I was now having vulval soreness and extreme discomfort on peeing.I also got my period.on top of this. I went to the gyne cologist who told me that i had a rash "most prob viral"he said but did not elaborate.I asked if it was Herpes and he said "something like that" He gave me acyclovir pills and cream. I had no investigations ordered .I had some relief initially but was very uncomfortable. I had about 2 bumps on vulval lips. No ulcers or scabs. As I finished the 5 days of pills my period stopped and i noticed a yellow vaginal discharge. I went back to doctor who did high vaginal swab which came back as Staph Aureus. He gave me  Betadine pessaries to be inserted for 3 nights. After the first night I had immense relief. By 3rd night symptoms were gone. My partner denied having Herpes. I ended relationship in Feb 2010. I had protected sex twice after that in may2010 with someone else. I have been abstinent since then. In Oct 2010 I developed itching of vulva followed by soreness again... 2 days later I noticed about 3 to 4 bumps on the lip of vulva. no pain. I went to another gynecologist who said it could be atypical Herpes as there were small ulcers on the bumps and gave me acyclovir cream only. I had some relief but that night I inserted Betadine pessaries for 2 nights and by day 3 the symptoms and bumps were gone.In the mean time the Herpes  Simplex 1 and 2 Igm and IgG came back Neg. My question is what could this be? And it came as a recurrence the 2nd time while being sexually inactive. Can I transmit it even while asymptomatic?

If you were negative I highly doubt this is HSV, but to be sure you should request a retest. You could be experiencing a sort of bacterial infection of a reoccurence of staph. once staph is in your blood it will remain there and  you are more prone to having reinfections, I know this from my husband having it and knowing a dermatologist who is a family friend. I'd start with a retest of blood for HSV and if it is againt negative I would work closly with your doctor.
