Afraid to become involved

Can someone please explain how you can become infected if your partner uses a condom and is taking antivirals? I keep reading that skin to skin contact in of low concern, but what about shedding?  Is there a risk if a lesion was on the thigh (no longer present) Do you shed from there and is that how you can get the virus? Confused and ashamed that I am afraid.

I had the std panel done since a lot of the posts kept saying that some people do not know if they have the virus. Mine came back negative for everything. My boyfriend believes he was exposed to HSV2 about 8 months ago and is going to be tested this week.  My obgyn seems to think that as long as he takes the antivirals and we use a condom there is nothing to worry about. I am reading the stats so I guess the risk for me contacting HSV2 is low but I am still a bit concerned.  Can you tell me what activities we can safely engage in. Thanks
