hsv-1 positive(help please)

hello everybody
this is the 1st time for me to do a full std pannel test which came back positive for herpes simplex type 1??!!!!
what does that mean ?I'm i carrying an std ?
should that be a barrier for me to date ????
i always ask if they have cold sores ,how did I get it ???
i have never had a cold sore in my life ?but my brother always has it (is it possible that i caught it from him by usuing his towel or glass??)

please help me Im frustrated

http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm   has terrific info on hsv1. You have no reason to assume your hsv1 isn't oral at this point. this link has the info you need for yourself and your future partners.

you can relax, HSV-1  is usally aquired as a child (that's how I got it) so is not considered an STD per se.  Just tell your partners about it and explain to them how HSV-1 is mostly aquired and explain the possible risks when a visible cold sore is presnet, and they should be understanding.
