red bumps

I had protected sex then received unprotected oral with a girl I had just met 4 months ago. Around 5 weeks later I got some pain in my testicles for around 2 weeks. At the same time the head of my penis seemed to have tiny red bumps which were not sore although I had a tingling in my urethra. The pain moved from my testicles and gradually worked its way up my abdomen to under my rib cage on both sides. I got tested for Gonnhorea, Chlamydia, NSU and Trich, all negative. All the symptoms have eased except the bumps. They aren't always prominent but are always there. On close examination the whole penis head has them and what looks like small broken veins. Is this a possible mild case of Herpes or can anyone else shed any light?

you need to be tested for both. in the UK, hsv1 genitally is the main cause of genital herpes so knowing your status is important for you and future partners.

I think this is a good idea. I will book in and keep you posted. Incidentally what makes it sound herpes unrelated as the information I found stated half of all herpes positive people have symptoms not typical of the classic blisters and lesions, they only have minor irritation and redness which is what I have. Also I know I have mouth cold sores, what will I get tested for, only hsv2 or both. What would your advise be?

doubtful this is herpes going on.

might be worth paying out of pocket for a type specific herpes igg blood test at a private clinic just for peace of mind don't you think?

Not yet, I phoned the GUM clinic and they told me I have to get there when the rash is prominent. It has already started to disappear. As all sources keep telling me it is not herpes I don't know wither to just use anti fungal cream and live with it or investigate further. What do you think? If it is just a thrush issue is there any risk to my partner?

Hi Grace, following on from this episode. I tried the powder but within 3 days of use a red irritating patch appeared so I stopped. The patch disappeared then another appeared 2 days later, no blisters just redness and itching. That was 2 months ago. Last weeks I had another red patch appear on penis head, very itchy, it also seamed to be on the area of foreskin that touched the glans area. Can this still be fungal or does it now sound more like a mild herpes outbreak. Incidentally I have no stomach pains anymore and my testicle scan was clear.

odds are this isn't a std related issue.  sounds like your providers have a plan in place for follow up too :)

best of luck getting to the bottom of this all!

No examination of prostate. I am waiting for the testicle ultrasound, should be getting done in 2 weeks time. Would any of these conditions account for pains under rib cage and lower back? I have been drying my penis with a hair dryer also for about a month but no change. Do you think it is safe for me to have sex as I have been staying well clear for the last 4 months? Do you recommend I push for blood tests for Herpes or should I forget this as a possibility?

fungal infection and thrush are the same thing.   4 weeks of antibiotics would also encourage the fungus to linger too :(

at this point, I'd actually just try something as simple as powdering your genital area with a corn starch based baby powder twice a day or even an antifungal powder for jock itch. give that a try and see what happens.  I'd also continue to follow up on the pains you are getting too. did they manually examine your prostate at all?  Did they do an ultrasound of your testicles and also check them for a hernia too?

Hi
I was given a 4 week course of anti-biotic which made no difference at all.
Penis head still has tiny red bumps and broken vessels. I occasionally still get the pains anywhere from my abdomen to my testicles. Fungal infection has never been mentioned but they did say thrush was a possibility so I used an anti thrush cream for 2 weeks, again no difference. Would a fungal infection cause my symptoms and is it contagious? Can I pass it to others?

this doesn't sound like it's genital herpes.

did they mention treating for a fungal infection?

were you given antibiotics at all for your symptoms?
