Borderline Positive Test

So I had recently found out that my girlfriend of about a year an half had herpes about 2 and a half years ago. I had some small red pimple like blotches on my upper thighs and around my pubic hair about a year ago but went and got that checked and it did not test postitive for herpes. SO we went to the doctors recently to get a blood test. The doctor told me she was doign 4 blood tests. Two for type 1 and two for type 2. I called the doctor after 2 weeks and she said that the results for three tests came back negative but one test for the type 2 virus came back as borderline positive. She said they were going to test it again to see if it would come back any different. What does borderline positive mean? Does that mean I have it? I woud love to talk to a doctor but I live in asia and they don't speak very good english here so I figured this was a good place to turn.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm not quite sure what kind of test it was cause the doctors english was not the greatest. I will call her soon to try to find out more. My girlfriend and I stopped having sex until this is sorted out. I talked with her about what we will do if I don't end up having hsv2 but I'm waiting on the test results before we continue a sexual relationship.

borderline isn't a reason for more testing. I'm going to assume that they did hsv1 and hsv2 igm and igg testing on you from the sounds of things.

My suggestion is, no more testing unless you get a return of obvious symptoms. If you do, be seen and have them cultured. Otherwise, take precautions with your gf ( whatever precautions the 2 of you want to take ) and unless the relationship ends, don't worry much about it. If you do chose to get tested periodically for herpes just to see what your status is, don't do so more than just once a year at your routine exam and only the igg blood test when you do get tested.  If this is a long term relationship, don't make herpes more of an issue than it needs to be.

Have you two talked about what precautions you want to take at this point?

Can you get the test name and the test results?  If the test was a type specific igg test that would be best for you to get.  Given your location I am not sure if you can get that.  If you can get the doctors office to give you the results you can post them here and maybe we can see.
