Can i have herpes?

Hi there,

Recienctly i have been getting bladder infections after sex if i dont go to the toilet after, it doesnt happen every time though. in the last 2 months i had been getting one approx every 2 weeks, and i thought that i possibly hadnt got rid of the infection properly as i had only been drinking alot of water to flush it out instead of going to the doctor. This method seemed to have worked as i felt better the next day, until a few weeks later when my next one arived. i decided to go to the doctor but my urine sample showed no specific bacteria, only blood and a few white blood cells. Im due for another urine test in a few days to see if my infection had cleared after some anti-biotics, but my doctor said that she might need to test me for STD's. i have alreasdy been tested for chlamydia, gohnoreah and another one starting with T..? the only one i havent been tested for is herpes. is it possible for me to have contracted this disease without knowing? when my only symptoms are those of a bladder infection?! i have never had an outbreak of herpes but ive read that alot of people live without any symptoms at all? im really worried! Does anyone have information that will help me?!

Thanks!!

At this point you are just guessing. follow up on this and get a proper work up done.  It's doubtful that even if you do have genital herpes, that it's flaring up this frequently.

it can be many things going on like low level infections, just general irritation that is causing urinary frequency or even low estrogen levels. the urogynecologist is the best bet because they do all "girl" issue down yonder and they think outside the box a bit more than just regular ole urologists I think.

Yes, your cold sores are most likely hsv1 so expect your blood test to be hsv1+.

By the chance that it doesnt turn out to be herpes, what other things could i be looking at?
Is it still possible just to be a simple uti or bladder infection even if there was no bacteria found in my urine at the time? Is white blood cells and blood enough to diagnose a uti?

I will definatly continue to be checked if my symptoms come back again!
Also i have had coldsores before (not for a long time) so that means that i have the HSV1 viris already right?

Would this give me any 'imunity' as such from genital herpes?
For example if somebody has the hsv1 viris in the genitals, caught from a coldsore or something like that, and i then have intercourse with that person will i already have something in my immune system to 'help' me not contract genital herpes?

These different strands are all so confusing so i just want to make some sence out of it knowing i already have the hsv1.

Thanks for any info! :)

Many things this can be and if your herpes test comes back negative, I recommend following up on this with an urologist or better yet an urolgynecologist for a more thorough work up.  uti's this frequently are a reason for a proper work up and proper treatment. I'd be seen everytime you have symptoms at this point, not just try to flush things out with water. You don't want to risk any future damage to your urogenital tract!

Thanks for the advice!

I think that may well have been the case, as i had been drinkning alot of water and flushed alot about right before i did my urine sample! i hope this is the case anyway!

Defintatly want to get a test for herpes to clear my mind because i have been stressing alot about it. i had no idea you could have herpes without symptoms until i statred reading about it, thats what stressed me out.

Thanks for the reply though! :)

Hey there! The other thing you were tested for was Trichomoniasis! Nasty stuff.
Your negative results for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea/Trich are very encouraging.

It is actually extremely normal to get a bladder infection from not urinating after sex. Sometimes bladder infections can go away on their own! That could be why your doctor did not find the bacteria in your urine.

I would still definitely recommend getting a test for Herpes. Don't be scared of it! If you indeed have it (I don't think you do) it does not kill or hurt you. There is a pill AND a cream out there that reduces/eliminates breakouts. :-)
