Oral herpes or chapped lips??

I have been having unprotected sex with this guy for about three months now. today, he accused me of giving him herpes1. i have been infected with herps1 since i was a child, but i made sure not to make contact with him in the presence of cold sores. he has extremely chapped lips, but no cold sores. i googled his symptoms such as overlicking, dryness, redness, and sensitive to temperature and my searches did not yield to herpes. i keep trying to reassure him that but he doesn’t believe me. i feel really guilty and have been honest with him but i don’t know what to do. also the chapped lips started when we started hooking up but became worse as time passed. and he’s never experienced this before with any girl except me. did i really give him oral herpes if he doesn’t have any cold sores?
