Hi there,
In November 2008, my boyfriend kissed me when he had a visible coldsore on his lip. 24 hours later I had one come up on my lip, but with it came 3 blisters in my mouth (on my tongue & gums). From the day I caught these cold sores, I've hardly had a single day without them. They are rarely on the outside of my mouth though, but always on the inside. This is a typical pattern for me: DAY 1: one comes up in my mouth & last 10 days, but as it is going down on about day 7, another one is forming elsewhere in my mouth. They just overlap resulting in me having cold sores for 365 days a year.
I have had many blood tests, tried many treatments but the only thing that has half worked has been acyclovir tablets. The only days I haven't had ANY are days that I take 1,500 mg or more of acyclovir in a day. The tablets are around $100 a pack for a month's supply - I can't afford that.
I have stuck to the high lysine/low arginine diet, so I only eat high lysine foods. If i eat chocolate, drink wine, eat bread or grains : I will have a cold sore coming on in half an hour.
The only thing my blood tests have shown is that my TSH has been fluctuating between 4 and 5, so a tiny bit above normal, but not enough for the doctors to treat. I have 8 other symptoms of hypothyroidism, could that be why my body has a complete inability to fight cold sores? Will treatment for hypothyroidism suppress my cold sores at all? to be cold sore free for even a week seems like an impossibe wish at the moment.
My boyfriend and I can't kiss, I can't eat chocolate, I can't drink, I can't kiss my family & haven't been able to do any of these things for over a year now..I feel like I've been delivered a life sentence..can anyone help?
