Concerns

I am a 48 year old male. I have had Herpes since I was diagnosed after having blood test when I was19. In the beginning I had many outbreaks.

After I turned 30 I had minimul break outs and only on my penis. Now this last year I have started to have more frequent outbreaks in multiple locations. In the last few months I've had severe outbreaks in my mouth on my lower and now my upper lip (never had before), on the inside my nose and on my penis VERY severly.

I had not had to take any meds for years  and if i did it was when I could feel the tingling prior to the outbreak and it would prevent it. Now even if I do take meds now, I still get multiple and severe outbreaks.  I am taking Acyclovir 200 MG capsules. When I feel the outbreak coming, I take 5 capsules a day. I've even started to take 2 or 3 daily even if I don't have an outbreak but that doesn't seem to stop them from happening.

I have had two VERY bad outbreaks in the past 30 days. Before that I had 3 over a three month period.  I only been with one woman in 6 years and because of this we have not had sex in over 6 months in fear of her contracting herpes. It's starting to really concern me not to mention the pain is very bad.

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

Thank you.

Also you aren't taking the proper doses of acyclovir anyways. Check out the herpes handbook at www.westeoverheights.com to learn more about how to properly treat herpes and what doses you should be taking.

That many years ago - a blood test wasn't type specific.  It was not the way to get tested for herpes back then. I agree - you need to go be seen and get examined.  Ask for a lesion culture for herpes and also for bacterial infections on your oral symptoms.  Also get yourself a type specific herpes igg blood test for hsv1 and hsv2 to see what it says.  Also even if you do have genital herpes - that doesn't mean that everything that goes on in your body is due to herpes which is why following up on all this is a good idea.

I agree that you should be seen. At the very least, if these symptoms are related to herpes, maybe you can switch to Valtrex so you are not taking so many pills so often! :) 200 mg is a low dose of acyclovir.

I think it's unusual if you've gone for many years without outbreaks to start having them again, especially this severe. You should definitely be seen. Did they even have blood testing for herpes 30 years ago? You might want to retake your blood tests.

You need to be seen by a doctor and have them do testing, you might have something else other than herpes...my suggestion is to go to a doctor, you might want to go to a Urologist...
