No, they can not tell you that you have had hsv2 for longer than 12 weeks. About 1/2 of folks + test on the igg test within 2-3 weeks of being infected. They need to call the lab and ask if there were numeric results. Most of the time there is just the lab has chosen to report with only + or -.
No, taking valtrex for 2 years does not make one iota of difference in the number of ob's down the road. Ask them to show you the research study that supports this!

Thanks for the info. I called the dr. office after reading some of these post. They told me the test they did only came back a false/or positive. And they could tell me that i had hsv-2 for longer than 12 weeks. Does that make sense? They also said that if I took valtrex for 2 years its suppose to help with outbreaks in the future. ?? Thanks so much for your help..
I encourage you to read the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com to better educate yourself on genital herpes.
No reason to treat this with valtrex for 2 years and then stop. Treating it for 2 years makes no difference in the long run and since you aren't dating anyone at the moment, it's not like you are trying to reduce transmission to a partner either.
Can you get the test results from the 2nd test to post here? All I need are the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 3.3 and hsv2 igg 2.3 or whatever they are. That way we can see if you need additional testing done or not since you didn't have any lesion cultures or anything done.
