Confused

The first time my now husband and I had sex (protected) he had a bad fever and sore throat that lasted about two weeks. Right after he developed a fever blister on his lip, he said it was due to the high fever and nothing more. That was seven years ago.

We're both healthy, but once a year he gets a bad fever but not blister or bumps. Just really sick for about a week.

For about four years we have being trying to conceive with no luck yet.

Last month he was itchy and had a rash around his foreskin. Also little tiny bumps on the head that went away in about a day but his foresking looked red and swallen. When he pulled back his foreskin there was a white discharge under the head. We thought it was a yeast infection, so I bought some cream. The cream helped the itchiness go away, he penis still looked irritated. When it was healing there was dead skin around his foreskin and it looks like it got tighter, making hard to pull back his foreskin.

Is it possible that one of us has herpes without knowing and infected the other. How likely is it to be together for so long and have no symptoms? I tend to get painful sores inside my mouth, but I think are canker sores. Never gotten a fever blister. Also he developed this rash after I gave him a blowjob, think I had a canker sore but it wasn't painful, kind of forgot it was there.

Also if we have herpes, can we still have children? Is this affecting our ability to conceive?

Ulcers inside the mouth are most likely unrelated to herpes. Gum sores are also far less likely to be related to herpes than other causes.

Regardless, your husband is immune to a genital HSV1 infection.

HSV2 is a separate virus that is very rare in the oral area.

Since our first sexual encounter, I thought that there was something wrong with me that made him sick but It seems he had HSV1 before we got together, he told me he have gotten fever blisters before. But he have only gotten one since we have been together.

Was wondering if I already have HSV1 (oral and genital) since is very contagious and we share everything. We have no symptoms, just his penis rash last month and the painful canker sores I get.

I'm very confused regarding oral herpes. Can you get painful sores inside the mouth instead of on your lips? If I had the virus for years, is it normal to get frequent painful ulcers inside the mouth? I'm only asking because when I gave my husband oral, I had a sore on my gum near my upper lip. I thought it was a canker sore but I read that sores on gums are more likely herpes.

Great set of questions.

It seems quite possible your husband has oral HSV1, not just because of the symptoms but the high incidence in the population. This means he is extremely unlikely to obtain a genital HSV1 infection.

Your husbands symptoms appear yeast related, herpes is well down the list as causes.

Could either of you have a genital HSV2 infection unknowingly? Yes this is possible, but a little unlikely.
