Could I have herpes?

So one of my friends has HSV-2 and she has it on and near her genitals. She has had a couple of outbreaks since then, in the same areas, and once she did have sex? with her partner while having an outbreak (I put the question mark there because they started to have sex and once her partner found out she was having an outbreak they stopped). They did have sex without protection a couple times as well. My friend and her partner do have sex at least one a week from what they tell me. My friend gives and receives oral sex from her partner without a condom or latex dental dam(used for oral sex for someone with a vagina or rimming). I'm concerned that one of them could contract the virus in their mouth and spread it to me because I sometimes share drinks with them. My mother also has herpes but she has HSV-1 and gets a cold sore on her mouth. She doesn't get outbreaks often, but can she still pass the virus to me is she kisses me(anywhere), even if she isn't having an outbreak? For example if she kissed me on my cheek could I get it on my cheek? What if she is having an outbreak and I touch her blister with my finger will I get the virus? Also someone I know has HSV-2 and has outbreaks on their hand, and not on their genitals, if I had sex with that person can i get the virus? If he isn't having an outbreak at all and we have sex is my chance of getting the virus lower? I have not had any symptoms that I know of, but just in case I am one of those asymptotic people, should I get tested? I'm sorry for asking so many questions and my lack of understanding of this topic. I'm just getting a whole bunch of different answers and although they are generally similar a bit of details are contradicting. I just want gain more knowledge about this to prevent ignorance and protect myself from STIs.

Thank you so much,
Robbie B.

Hi, contracting hsv from sharing drinks is more for young children whose immune systems are still not in place. Your chances of contracting it from sharing drinks is practically zero risk.

1. yes and its called shedding where the virus is on the skin surface but no sore.
2. most often on the lips but "outbreaks" can occur on the cheek
3. no not on your finger
4. no need for testing
