Complications

Need help again. I have Hsv 2. Today, I accidentally brushed my mouth against the pillow and there must have been some saliva on it. Some time later, my baby niece took the pillow and put into her mouth. I'm afraid she'll come into contact with the area that I've touched. Is there any risks of transmission?

correct - someone laying down on your pillow is not a risk even if you had drool profusely while sleeping.

Really? Thanks Grace. I doubt the virus will stay long on the pillow also right?

this was absolutely, positively not a risk for your niece!!

even if you did happen to have hsv2 orally, which it's not likely you do, it hardly ever sheds plus it's poorly transmitted through saliva contact ( as is hsv1 orally too ). It's really not a risk to others.

Oral HSV2 is very rare; about 3% of all oral herpes cases. It very rarely sheds or causes outbreaks. Transmission of oral HSV2 it is incredibly rare.

You never said how you were diagnosed as having HSV2. If by blood test, your infection is almost certainly genital, not oral.

Your comment about saliva though has nothing to do with genital herpes. If you want to know if your genital herpes can be spread through saliva, you are wrong. It is not a systemic disease.

Yeah but my doctor also advised me not to share saliva with anyone. He says the risk is very little. I saw somewhere on the Internet some people have Hsv two but actually is not on the genitals but cold sores? Just don't wanna take any risks..

Sure, if someone performs oral sex on you, you could transmit your genital herpes to their mouth. However, your genital herpes is not in your saliva! Genital herpes is an STD - you have to have sex to transmit it. We don't have that sort of contact with children.

But From what I know there might be little risk of transmission though saliva even though it's genital herpes. Furthermore, there are some cases whereby people are infected with cold sores with genital herpes.

This is not a risk. Genital herpes is an STD and requires sexual contact.

How were you diagnosed as having HSV2?
